Lobo BBall Family,

This year we started out the journey focusing on the process to be as good as we can be. We began by setting standards by which we would measure our success regardless of the final score of each game. The standards have been tested everyday of season individually and within the concept of the team. The season of basketball is long and many times exhaustive physically and mentally. Our message as a coaching staff has been to stay on the path and believe in the process. Our mantra has always been to work hard, surround yourself with people you can trust, then believe that many great things can be accomplished when all efforts are focused on one goal together. The goal is to simply be the very best you can be everyday in all aspects of our life. Sometimes along the journey we gain wisdom to prepare us for the next part of the journey. That wisdom is gained through our trials and tribulations. We continue to take everything we have learned to forge ahead on the path, because in the journey we are not always sure where the path is going to take us. Within the journey, we sometimes wonder where the path is leading and is it all worth it. Sometimes the journey reveals that we are indeed on the right path and the wisdom gained along the way has only prepared us for the challenges that make it all worth it.

Friday night was one of those nights where everything we have been working toward was tested. I am not sure that I can explain what the atmosphere was like on Friday night in the gym at Cy-Falls. To say the atmosphere was electric would not do it justice. The weather has caused havoc on the outside sports, but the result was that seemingly everyone in the Cypress area was trying to get into the building for the Langham Creek vs. Cy-Falls game. I think the date had been circled on both teams schedules since that schedule was released. The game did not disappoint if you are a part of the Lobo Nation!! The time was set from the opening possession when the roof was almost blown of the building with a dunk that set the tone for the night. The Lobos were going to lay it all on the line. Lay it all on the line was enough on this particular night. A buzzer beater right before the half gave the Lobos momentum and a lead of 26-19. The Lobos then came out of halftime and connected on another three pointer that moved the margin to 29-19. The Lobobs moved the margin to 13 points, but Cy-Falls was not going to go away. They made a run to chip away at the margin and gut it to four. However, the Lobos answered and connected on freethrows down the stretch to move to 23-8 overall and move into a tie for first place with Cy-Falls and Cy-Springs at 9-1. The final score of 52-44 only means the journey continues and we must continue to focus on the standards and the process of being the best we can. One our goals has been accomplished, the win clinched our 5th consecutive playoff berth. However, our work is not done!!

The District Standings are as follows after 2/3/2012 games

Cy-Springs 9-1
Langham Creek 9-1
Cy-Falls 9-1
Cy-Lakes 6-4 (Friday at Cy-Lakes)
Cy-Ranch 4-6
Cy-Creek 4-6
Cy-Fair 3-7 (Tues at Langham)
Cy-Ridge 3-7
Cy-Woods 2-8
Jersey Village 1-9

It is my hope that Friday night's crowd will continue to follow us in journey of 2011-2012 season. We are not sure where the journey will take us, but we are sure that we can achieve great things and be the best we can when we have the support of the The Lobo Nation. I understand that many spring sports are getting started, but we need the support of The Lobo Nation in the final stretch of the season. We hope to see you in the stands!!

Photos of Friday Night's action were captured and put online. If you were not there maybe you can catch a glimpse of what the atmosphere was like. Those that were there, maybe you further appreciate what you were a part of.

Another great part of Friday night was that the varsity was not the only team that won. All teams won on Friday at Cy-Falls. Another clean sweep by the Lobos. The JV had a great defensive effort and executed on offense. The Sophomore Team continued to roll as they picked up another win in their winning streak. The Freshmen A team showed up and proceed to control everything from the start and won going away by 40 points. The Freshmen B Team found a way to win. The final total on Friday night Lobos 5 Eagles 0. Great night to be a Lobo!!!'

Tuesday night the Lobos hosted Cy-Creek. The pesky Cougars would not go away. The Lobos started off as if they were going to take control of the game. However, the Cougars continued to stick around by knocking down outside shots. In the final quarter the Lobos had their margin cut to four points. However, a couple of costly mistakes and a shot that did everything but go in by the Cougars allowed the Lobos escape 65-54. All teams again won. The JV did a great job of adjusting to the zone defense and found a way to win in the final stretch to finish off the Cougars. The Sophomore team continued their hot streak of consecutive wins. The Freshmen A Team used pressure defense to pull out to a big margin and they never looked back. The Freshmen B team also used the press to allow them to build a double digit margin. They finished the off by that margin. It was a great week for the Lobos 10-0 on the week.

See you in the stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

It's amazing sometimes how fast time flies when you become so focused on reaching a goal.  Sometimes we forget to take time appreciate where we have been and what we have accomplished when we become so focused.  Somewhere along the way we have played 29 games and it seems as if this week has been circled since the schedule was released.  It has been in the back of the mind of the players and community for some time.  Now that it is right before us, the build up can be excruciating.  This week the message to the guys is that the preparation of the big moment happens well before the opportunity presents itself.  All we can ever do is work hard, surround ourselves with people we love and trust, and do your best at your job.  When it is all said and done, we want to look back we want to say we were ready and laid it all on the line.  No regrets!  Our message the entire season has been to focus on the process and stay on the path.  Although the build up to this week has been one that many in the city have been pointing to, each one of the district games means the same.  The one before it and the one after it all count the same.  But there are some that are different than others.  In a dream world they are the same, but some just feel different.  This in one of those weeks when it is exciting to be a Lobo basketball player, coach, or fan.  Cy-Creek is first on Tuesday at Langham Creek, then Cy-Falls on Friday at Cy-Falls.  We hope that the community will come out to support the Lobos as they try to seal the 5th consecutive playoff appearance.  Our success is a direct result of the hard work and support of the community.  We are in the final stretch of the season and hope that everyone will be a part of whatever success lies ahead of our team and a continuation of the tradition of Langham Creek Basketball.

Last week was another great week for the Basketball Program.  The week started Tuesday as the Spartans of Cy-Lakes came to Langham Creek.  The contest set up a match of two of the top four teams in the district.  Last year the Spartans were the only team that left victorious against the Lobos in district.  This year, the Lobos were out to defend homecourt and make sure it did not happen again.  The Spartans came in with a record of only two district losses.  Their first loss was to Cy-Springs by 3 and the other was against Cy-Falls who beat Cy-Lakes by 3 as well.  Cy-Lakes since they opened the doors has always been a tough match for the Lobos.  Tuesday night, the Lobos were focused on the task at hand.  In the first quarter, the Lobos built a lead and controlled the game.  The Spartans answered with a run, then the Lobos took control in the second quarter with a 28-22 lead going into halftime.  The Spartans are always capable of making a run with their outside shooting, but that night the ball did not find the bottom of the net.  The Lobos were able to continue to steady performance and were able to pull away 60-47.  The win clinched the four consecutive season of 20 wins moving the Lobos to 20-8 on the season and 6-1 in district.  The JV had a great defensive effort with the Lobos controlling the game from the tip and won by 20 points.  The Sophomore team did much of the same with great defensive effort and hot outside shooting allowing the Lobos to prevail.  The Freshmen A team took a little while to get started but once they did the Spartans were not enough to stand in the way of the Lobos.  A second half performance turned quickly in the Lobos favor as they marched on to a 32 point margin.  The Freshmen B started of quickly, but the press wore down the Lobos in the second half as the Spartans were too much.

Friday night, the Lobos traveled to take on Cy-Woods to take on the zone foe.  The Lobos opened up the district campaign against the Wildcats.  The Wildcats were a roster filled with young players and I knew that the second contest would not be as easy as the margin of victory indicated in the first meeting.  The Lobos were able to jump out to an early lead and margin stayed close throughout.  But the tempo of the game favored the Lobos as they built a 40-31 lead at halftime.  The pace of the game slowed quite a bit in the third quarter as many of the Lobo attempts couldn't find the bottom of the net.  The Wildcats cut into the lead at the end of the third quarter, but the Lobos were too much in the 4th quarter.  Stellar defense and the lid was removed on the basket allowed the final margin to be 61-50.  The Lobos moved to 21-8 overall and 7-1 in district.  The current standings for the district race is as follows:

Cy-Falls 8-0 (Friday at Cy-Falls)
Cy-Springs 7-1
Langham Creek 7-1
Cy-Lakes 5-3
Cy-Creek 3-5 (Tuesday at Langham Creek)
Cy-Ridge 3-5
Cy-Woods 2-6
Cy-Fair 2-6
Cy-Ranch 2-6
Jersey Village 1-7

The JV team was challenged int he second half after jumping out to a big lead in the first half.  Pressure freethrows down the stretch ended up being the final margin of victory for the Lobos.  The Sophomore team continued their hot stretch of winning their last five games after starting out 1-2 in district.  They have moved to 6-2 in district with another victory Friday.  The Freshmen A could not muster enough to pull out a close game on Friday as they could not overcome the three point shooting of the Wildcats.  The Lobos fell 63-60.  The Freshmen B team revenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats in the first meeting by defeating the Wildcats in a hard fought game.  The Lobos were able to close out the contest with a 1 point victory.

Lobo BBall Family,

It is hard to believe that the season finds us with only seven district games left.  We are at the point of the season where it seems like it has been a marathon and many of the experiences of the race we can clearly remember.  Some seemed to have happened many miles ago in the journey, but when we look forward we are at the point of the season where we can't believe it is getting close to the end.  Much like a marathon, the hardest part of the race is the final of stretch.  All of the training, commitment, and sacrifice are tested like no other part of the race.  The final stretch of getting to the destination is always the most challenging because everything that you have done is tested like at no other time.  The basketball season is much like the marathon.  It hard to believe we are so close the end, but it seems like the journey has been going on forever.  How will we finish the last stretch of the journey is what is most important?  Like the final 4.2 miles of the marathon, the last seven games will be the most challenging part of the journey.

1/10/2012 The Lobos traveled to Cy-Creek to take on the Cougars.  The Varsity went into the game at 2-0.  Early in the first quarter, the Lobos gained control of the game moving out to a 24-11 lead.  The Lobos continued to play at a high level and put the game away in the third quarter with an 18-6 quarter.  The Lobos cruised to a 67-34 win.  The sub-varsity Lobos did not fare a well as the Varsity team.  The JV lost a close game as turnovers and defensive breakdowns allowed the Cougars to escape with a 47-46 win.  The sophomore team fought hard but the Cougars were too much for the Lobos to overcome.  The Freshmen A did a great job of overcoming a large deficit early in the game.  They were able to build a comfortable lead only to see it disappear in the final minute, but the Lobos did enough to escape with a win.  The B team played a close game for much of the game, but the Cougars were too much down the stretch and held on for the victory.

1/13/2012 The Lobos returned to action looking to stay undefeated in district against the Rams of Cy-Ridge.  The contest was the featured game of the week on www.foxsportshouston.com who streamed the game in live on the internet.  Those that showed up to the game saw a game that was filled with plenty of action as the Cy-Ridge Rams played at a pace that is entertaining to watch, but not very fun to coach against.  Their frenetic pace and ability to shoot the three ball from the arc is hard to prepare for in practice.  The Lobos were in for a contest in the first half as the Rams barrage of three pointers did not stop.  Everytime it seemed as if the Lobos were going to start pulling away the Rams would answer.  In the third quarter the Lobos gained control of the game with a 20-11 margin.  The final quarter saw the Lobos continue to execute and pull away with a final margin of 85-69.  It was a good night for all of the Lobos as all teams were victorious on the night.  The Lobos played well at all levels and finished the night off with a clean sweep of the Rams.

1/17/2012 marked the fifth game of district and saw the Lobos hosting the Falcons of Jersey Village.  The Lobos jumped out to a 17-10 at the end of the first quarter and it looked like the Lobos would cruise to another district victory.  However, the Falcons had other things in mind.  The Falcons would not go away and continued to make the game close throughout.  The Lobos were able to continue execute on offense, but the Falcons continued to make plays to stay close.  The Lobos gained control in the 4th quarter, but still the Falcons would not go away.  The final margin of 68-59 saw the Lobos move to 5-0 in district and 19-7 overall.  Once again the sub-varsity teams were able to win all games seeing all teams go 5-0 on the night.

1/20/2012 The Lobos traveled to Cy-Springs in a showdown of two of the top teams in the district.  The Panthers entered the contest at 4-1 in district with their only loss to coming to Cy-Falls by 3 points.  The Lobos entered the game at 5-0.  The games between Cy-Springs and Langham Creek are always battles.  Friday night was not any different.  In the first quarter, the Lobos and Panthers matched baskets in a game that went back and forth.  The Lobos opened up a 11-10 lead at the end of the quarter.  The Lobos then looked to start to slowing take control of the contest as the inside presence of the posts started to wear down the Panthers.  The Lobos went into halftime with a 28-21 lead.  The Lobos once again in the third quarter looked to take control of the game and moved to a 41-31 lead going into the final quarter.  In the final quarter, the game turned into a contest of wills as the Panthers made a final push and showed what the rivalry of Cy-Springs and Langham Creek is all about.  The Panthers were able to make shots that they had not made all night, but somehow found the bottom of the net in the fourth quarter.  The Lobos were able to stay strong and had chances to win in regulation, but the ball did not find the bottom of the net.  The Panthers took all of the momentum of the 4th quarter into overtime and seized control of the game to win 65-55 in overtime.  The sub-varsity teams once again swept all games and have gone three contests in a row of winning all sub-varsity games.  The sub-varsity teams are on a roll and are playing their best basketball of the season as a collective group.

The district race is as follows:
Cy-Falls 6-0
Cy-Springs 5-1
Langham Creek 5-1
Cy-Lakes 4-2
Cy-Creek 3-3
Cy-Fair 2-4
Cy-Ranch 2-4
Cy-Ridge 1-5
Cy-Woods 1-5
Jersey Village 1-5

This week the Lobos will face another huge battle in Cy-Lakes as the Spartans visit Langham Creek on Tuesday.  The loss for the Lobos on Friday night was a tough one to swallow, but the message was given to them on Saturday at practice was "The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart" Robert Green Ingersoll.  The journey continues and the process is the same.  Continue on the path and focus on the next challenge directly in front of us.

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

I hope this email finds you and your family doing well and had a great Holiday season. It has been some time since the last newsletter went out many great things have been happening since I last touched base. We are in the beginning stretch of what is the most important part of the season, the district race. It should be a great part of the journey as everything prior to the district race is preparation for district opponents and hopefully experiences after district. Before we move forward in the district, lets take a step back and look at all of the things that have happened over the holiday break.

The Lobos traveled to Aldine Nimitz as four teams were in action on Dec. 16. For the Varsity, it was the second time in less than a week to face the Cougars as the Lobos. Facing at team twice in a week is never an easy feat, especially a team that can shoot the ball like Nimitz. The game opened up with both teams firing on all cylinders. In the second quarter it was no different. In the third quarter, it may have been the defining moment for this team this year. The Lobos started to fall behind and a change of pace was needed to give the Lobos a chance to win. We went deep into our bench and played a small fast line-up who fought, scratched and clawed their way back from an 11 point deficit to take a controlling 7 point lead. The final margin was three, but the Lobos were able to secure a victory and give those in the stands a glimpse of what type of team we could be for the rest of the season. The JV played in a back and forth game of runs. The Lobos traded baskets and fell a little short at the end. The Freshmen were on another site at the 9th grade campus next door. The Lobos fell short in both freshmen games.

Decemeber 20, 2011, The Lobos hosted state ranked Strake Jesuit who boasted two Division I early signees Rasheed Saluimon (Duke) and John Gillon (Ark-Little Rock). The stands were rocking as the build up to the game was one that many in the community had looked forward to when the schedule was released. The game did not disappoint. The Lobos once again got off to a great start scoring 27 points in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Crusaders heat up and the Lobos traded baskets. The second half was not any different. The Crusaders had 25 field goals on the night, 13 were three point makes. They scored more from the three line than inside the arc. In the fourth quarter, the Lobos had chances to control the game, but two empty possessions late meant the Lobos had to come up with a defensive stop at the end of the game to move to overtime. The Lobos came up with a stop and moved to overtime. The overtime battle was not any different as both teams went back and forth. The final margin of one point 74-73 was a tough way to see the game come to an end. But once again the Lobos were right there at the end against another top ten team in the state. The sub-varsity teams were also in action against Strake as all five teams were in action. Both the JV and Freshmen A Teams were able to pick up victories and the Sophomore and Freshmen B Teams fell a little short.

After the Strake Jesuit game, the entire program took six days off. On Dec 27, the Varsity Lobos were once again in a tournament that featured top teams from around the state. The Lobos dusted off their Nikes and laced them up against one of the top teams in the Dallas area Colleyville Heritage. The game tipped off at 9 am and the Lobos were were still on vacation in the first quarter as the Heritage jumped out to a 17-4 lead. But true to form, the Lobos came roaring back as a late 3 at the end of the first quarter jumped started a big second quarter. The Lobos closed the margin by half and started to seize control of the game in the fourth quarter only to see Colleyville Heritage do enough to stick around and make it close. A three pointer at the end of the game by Heritage made the final margin 56-55. Next up for the Lobos in the second round was Humble who boasted a top 15 state ranking in 4a. The Lobos once again had to maintain their composure against a head hot handed team in the first half. Humble made 8 three pointers in the first half. The margin stayed close in the first half as the Lobos weathered the storm. In the second half, the Lobos made adjustments and the Wildcat shooting cooled off. The Lobos continued to execute and gained the lead. The Lobos were in complete control with a 9 point lead with 3:00 left to play. Humble switched to a defense that we had seen several times over the season, but on this day it was simply the Lobos who did things that were uncharacteristic. Turnovers that led to quick transition baskets for Humble saw the lead erased and the Wildcats control the end of the game. The final margin was 69-64 as the Lobos simply didnt do enough to close out the game.

Dec 28, the Lobos showed the true character that they possess and bounced back against another state ranked team in 4a Trimble Tech. Tech came into the game with a top 5 state ranking. The Lobos came out firing on all cylinders. The fast and frenetic pace of the game saw lost of runs by both teams. The Lobos were on the bad side of the runs in the second quarter. Tech gained control of the pace and seized a lead going into halftime. The Lobos came out in the third quarter and put a run together to try to regain the lead. The Lobos chipped away at the lead gaining momentum in the 4th quarter. The Lobos controlled the pace, but Tech had one last run in them. Once again the Lobos had to make a final stop on the last play of the game to force overtime. Once again the Lobos did just that. For the second time in four games, the Lobos would force overtime against another state ranked team. The Lobos controlled the overtime from the tip, but it was not easy as Tech refused to go away. The Lobos secured the win 64-60 to move to the 5th place game against Kingwood at Kingwood High School in the Kingwood Classic. The Lobos had already played the tough Mustangs on November 22 when the Lobos found a way to win 46-43. This time in the tournament it was a different story. The Lobos controlled the game from the start and never looked back. The Lobos jumped out to another hot shooting start then finished a furious end of the half to open up a 16 point margin. The margin was too much as the Mustangs made a run, but it was not enough as the Lobos answered the runs.

In all, the Lobos went 3-1 against top teams in the Metroplex and Houston area. We finished 5th int eh tournament and Danny Newsome was named to the All-Tournament team. The Lobos played 21 non-district and tournament games against some of the top teams in the state to prepare for the district race and to get experience for what hopefully will be the 5th playoff trip in a row. The Lobos move into district play with a record of 14-7.

Jan. 3, the Lobos opened up district with a young Cy-Woods team that was looking to earn a little respect in district. The first quarter was played fairly even. The second quarter would see the Lobos open up an eight point lead on a run at the end of the quarter. The Lobos then started to pull away in the third and fourth quarter. The Lobos were simply too much on this meeting moving to 15-7 on the season and 1-0 in district. The Lobos have another meeting with the Wildcats and I expect the young team to continue to improve as district moves forward. The sub-varsity teams fared well against the Wildcats as well. The Freshmen A team played a thrilling double overtime game, but fell 49-48. The sophomore team was able to put four quarters together. The JV was also victorious in an impressive win. The Freshmen B Team did enough to win the district opener.

Jan. 6, The Lobos had another challenge from a team trying to make their mark on the district race in Cy-Ranch. The Mustangs were coming off a devastating loss Tuesday when they lost to Cy-Fair at the buzzer with a halfcourt shot. We were not sure what to expect from the bounce back. But the Lobos were ready for whatever was in front of them. The Lobos once again came out firing on all cylinders. It was clear from the beginning that the Lobos would take charge from the beginning. The Lobos opened up a margin of 27-8 and never looked back. In the third quarter, the Lobos lead 50-14. The opening three minutes of the third quarter put the game well into hand. The Lobos final margin of 65-32 moved the Lobos to 16-7 on the season and 2-0 in district.

This year, the staff of myself, Coach Denson, and Coach Garney had 84 wins going into the season. The win Friday night was our 100th in our 5th year together. 100 might not seem like a lot, but in the city of Houston and the district that we play in every night it is quite an accomplishment. There are many on the email list that have had players in the past contribute, but are no longer playing that still come to the games. We are thankful for all that have contributed to the success of the basketball program. As with all of our teams, we never set out to hit magical feats, but occasionally there are things that happen in the journey that you have to stop and reflect where we came from, where we are, and where we are going. As the head coach 100 is a nice number to reflect on those things that have happen in the past, present, and future. Thanks for all that have contributed and all that are planning to be around in the future. We look forward to what our next challenges will be.

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

12/12/2011

Lobo BBall Family,

It was another busy week filled with basketball. This weekend marked a huge weekend across the city for tournament play. The Lobos were once again up against tough talented teams in the week to continue on the path of the 2011-12 season. Tuesday night all teams hosted Seven Lakes of Katy ISD. In the short time since we have been playing, the games have been close hard fought battles. The short time that the games have taken place, a west Houston rivalry has been established. The games are always hotly contested and a battle to the end. Tuesday night was no different. The Lobos jumped out to an early lead at halftime 26-18. The Lobos started off controlling the tempo and used great defense and great shot selection to establish an early control. The 3rd quarter saw the Lobos sputter on offense and bad execution allowed the Lobos to let the Spartans back into the game. The Spartans seized the opportunity to pull ahead 34-30 in the 4th quarter. The Spartans looked like they might pull ahead and cruise to victory as the lead increased to seven. However, the Lobos had one final run at the Spartans and pulled to within 44-46. Two offensive rebounds and a three pointer by Seven Lakes late in the game pushed the lead to five points and it was just a little too much for the Lobos to overcome. Final score was 51-47 Seven Lakes.

The sub-varsity teams did not fare too well on the night either. The JV fell by one in which a final three point shot went in and out to see the Spartans escape with a victory. The Freshmen A team had a chance at victory as well, but the final seconds of the game saw the Lobos come up one bucket short. Both the Sophomore and Freshmen B teams also put forth valiant efforts only to see the Lobos fall short. Tuesday was a tough night in Loboland. The margin against good teams is so small. Tuesday night reminded us of that.

The Varsity was able to resume the schedule as they took part in the Cypress Hoops Invitational. The first opponent was Katy High School. The Lobos simply overpowered the Tigers and lead for the tip. The Lobos defensive effort and hot shooting saw the Lobos cruise to a 65-17 victory. The first round win set up a match up against a hot Klein team that was 9-1 going into the game. The Lobos dug themselves an early hole of missed perimeter shots and foul trouble that saw the deficit reach sixteen points. However, the Lobos came charging back to cut into the lead at halftime. The lead was trimmed to six. The Lobos continued to whittle away at the lead and saw the margin cut to three. It was one of those games as a coach where I felt like if we could just take the lead we would have found a way to win. But it simply wasn't the case as freethrows and close shots simply could not find the bottom of the net. Klein went on to win the tournament and now stands at 11-1 on the season. The next round of the tournament saw Nimitz Cougars in an early morning battle at Cy-Lakes. The Lobos came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a commanding 20-3 lead in the first quarter. The Cougars continually made runs at the Lobos, but every time the Lobos answered right back. The Lobos advanced to the 5th place game with a win over Nimitz 74-69. In the 5th place game, the Lobos were at the Berry Center to take on the Lions of Spring High School. The Lions simply were no match in the final game of the tournament for the Lobos. The Lobos used solid defense and transition offense to overpower the Lions and cruise to victory to finish the tournament at 3-1.

The Freshmen A team was also in action at the CFISD Freshmen A Tournament. The lobos played Cy-Springs Thursday and were in control from the tip. The A team never trailed as they won 40-35. They then advanced to play the Cy-fair Bobcats on Saturday morning. It was a game that saw many lead changes. In the end the Lobos who managed to hit 8 3 pointers but missed 13 free throws came up short 49-44. They then faced Cy-Ranch Saturday afternoon in a battle for 3rd place in the tournament. The Lobos jumped to an early lead and never looked back beating the Mustangs 57-52.

This week is a special week for the girls team as they are selling shirts to raise money by selling special shirts in which all proceeds go towards cancer research. T-Shirts are $5. If you are interested in supporting a great cause, any of the girls’ coaches will be able to get a shirt for you and your family members. The special game will take place on Friday Dec. 16 at Langham Creek vs Stratford High School.

This week final exams start for the school and the final week of the semester sees the guys preparing for finals. It is important to note that the six weeks grade determines the eligibility of the player. Many teachers get caught up in looking at the grade for the semester, which is important. However, for the purpose of eligibility a student can pass for the semester and fail the six weeks. Failing this period the player would miss the majority of the district campaign. As you are checking your child's grade please be aware of both the semester and six weeks grade. The semester grade is the one that is vital to the determination of the student’s grade point average (gpa). The final exam counts for 1/7 of the student’s grade or the equivalent of three weeks’ worth of work!!!!!!! Many times the students overlook the semester exam final which can affect the gpa because they score poorly on the exam. Both are important for different reasons.

Lobo BBall Family,

The basketball season tipped off 11/14/2011 at College Park. The start of something new always brings new energy and excitement. The start of the basketball season was no exception. The Lobos got out of the shoots a little slow as the Freshmen B Team fell to the Cavaliers, but fought valiantly in defeat. The Freshmen A team got out to a fast start before cooling off and making one last run to fall just short 44-47. The JV team got off to a fast start and cooled off, but down the stretch the Lobos made a furious comeback and made several defensive stops securing the winning margin of 62-60 at the foul line. The Varsity team started of with a fury and never looked back on the night and buried College Park. Five players were in double figures as a balanced attack was simply too much for the Cavaliers to overcome. The Lobos won 75-63 to move to 1-0 on the young season.

The next challenge for the Lobos came in the form of one of the best tournaments in the state as many out of town teams traveled to Pasadena to compete in the McDonald's Texas Invitational. Many of the out of town teams were state ranked and the competition of the tournament would be a great test for the Lobos. The format of the the tournament was 24 of the top ranked teams would play pool play on Thursday. In pool play, the Lobos drew powerhouses of Alief Elsik and Duncanville. The selection committee ranked the Lobos #24 of 24 teams competing in the Division I teams. With a chip on their shoulder, the Lobos came out firing on all cylinders. The Lobos were able to dissect the Elsik zone and press the entire game. Unselfish play and great defense, led to the first win to raise a few eyebrows in the tournament. The Lobos were able to pull ahead and stay ahead with the final margin 70-46. The second contest of the day would be the perennial state power house of Duncanville. The first half of the game was not one that would set the nets on fire, but the slow start by the Lobos only saw the deficit of one seem like a good place to be. The third quarter saw the Lobos fall to as many as nine behind the Panthers. However, the Lobos simply mustered the will from within to erase the deficit and keep the game close for much of the fourth quarter. In the middle of the fourth quarter the Lobos, began to take reigns of the game to ice the victory over a tough Duncanville team 51-47. The Lobos would end day one of the tournament 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the pool play would mean that the Lobos would march on to the Gold Bracket of the Tournament.

On the second day of the tournament, eight teams advanced from each pool and began bracket play. I was told after the tournament, that the gold bracket had 6 of the 8 teams ranked in the top 10 in the state in preseason polls. As the result of being the lowest seed to advance to the Gold Bracket, the Lobos were matched up with #1 team in the state, nationally ranked, and defending state champion Flower Mound Marcus. The Lobos were up for the challenge, but the stifling Marcus defense and offensive execution of the Marauders proved to be too much for the Lobos. The loss proved to be a good measuring stick for how the best team in the state plays basketball. As a coach, we can explain what it is like, but much like a parent sometimes the child must go through the experience to truly learn. The experience of playing the best proved that although we are on the right path, there is plenty to improve in order to be the best. Marcus pulled out to an early 19-3 lead and cruised the rest of the way to win 47-27. The great thing about the tournament is there was not much time to feel sorry for ourselves. The next opponent was preseason #2 in the state North Crowley. In what turned out to be a great game, the Lobos did not get off to a great start as North Crowley came out guns blazing from the perimeter. However, the Lobos were able to chip away at the lead and took control of the game going into the fourth quarter. The Lobos would learn another lesson about playing good teams. Good teams make you pay right away when you make mistakes. Many of the mistakes that were made were common, but the mistakes turned into fastbreak points and open 3's. North Crowley took full advantage of the opportunities and made the Lobos pay. The North Crowley game is one that feels like got away, but the lesson learned was that mistakes at the end are hard to overcome against good teams. North Crowley made just a few more plays down the stretch to win a narrowly 52-50. The second day of the tournament came to an end with the Lobos playing the preseason #1 and #2 teams in the state.

Day three of the tournament only meant that the Lobos had to play one more state ranked team in Richardson Berkner, preseason top 10. The Lobos showed great character once again to battle after what had been two tough days against top competition from around the state. The energy and poise of the Lobos proved to be too much for Berkner from the start. The Lobos were able to play great defense and execute on offense to win 58-44 against a tough team that had good guards and athletic post play. Overall the tournament was one where the Lobos were able to play against four state ranked teams in Elsik, Marcus, North Crowley, and Berkner as well as a powerhouse of Duncanville. Overall the Lobos moved to 4-2 on the season after the tournament. As a result of the tournament showing, the Lobos moved into the state rankings of #13 in the state by Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Although the rankings are great recognition for the Lobos and the community of Langham Creek, it does not define who we are and how we are going to work. This year the motto of Work Hard, Be Humble, Enjoy the Journey is embodied every time we touch the floor in practices and games. One of the things that I have shared with the team on our Monday Meetings is that recognition will come if we stay focused on the path. If we become distracted by the outside influences of what comes in celebrating our team, the path will lead in many different directions and we will not remain united moving toward our next challenge. The journey of the season is long and arduous. Our challenge is to stay focused on the path and the next obstacle that is before our team. I am challenging the Lobo BBall Family and Lobo Nation to help us in our journey to stay focused on the next play, not the end of the journey. One play at a time. One practice at a time, one game at a time. It is a process to be as good as you can be. We must be focused on Getting Better Everyday.

Monday 11/21 the Freshmen A and JV teams were in action as they hosted Cinco Ranch. The Freshmen A once again got off to a good start only to see the size of the Cougars take its toll on the Lobos. Once again the margin of defeat was small as the Lobos overcame a large deficit to cut it close only to see the clock expire to see the Cougars prevail 49-47. The JV team moved toward another win in the young season handling the Cinco Ranch Cougars a defeat. The Lobos proved that their speed and defense was simply too much for the Cougars to over come. The Lobos prevailed and cruised to victory and move to 2-0 on the season.

Tuesday 11/22 all five teams were in action as the Kingwood Mustangs rolled into Lobo Gymnasium. The Freshmen B team lost a close one 33-36 in a game that could have gone either way. The Freshmen A team once again was involved in a game that could have gone either way. Kingwood was barely too much as the Lobos fell in overtime 60-61. The Sophomore team was in action for the first time on the season and simply proved to be too much for the Mustangs. The Lobos moved out to a comfortable lead, only to see the Mustangs make one last run before the Lobos held them off to win their season opener. The JV team found another way to win in what was a close game throughout the night. The slow tempo of the game favored Kingwood, but the Lobos willed their way to victory to move to 3-0 on the season. The Varsity once again was challenged by one to the storied programs in Houston and the state as Kingwood always makes a team beat them, they very rarely give any wins away. Tuesday night was no different. The Lobos moved out to an early lead, but the Mustangs stayed closed throughout the night chipping away at the lead. Kingwood used several outside shots late in the game to pull the margin close, but the Lobos made enough plays to win the game. The Mustangs had one final shot at the end of the game, but the Lobo defense proved to be too much at the end to allow them to get a good look. The Lobos prevailed 46-43 to move to 5-2 on the young season.

Wednesday 11/23, the Lobos were in action once again against one of the tougher teams in the city of Houston. The Lobos and Westfield Mustangs were one of eight games that took place at Spring High School as teams from 13-5A took on teams for 17-5A. Teams were seeded for the event and the Lobos were one of the top seeds in the district and took on Westfield who was one of the top teams in their district. For the Lobos, it was the seventh game in six days against some of the top teams in the state of Texas. The Lobos were a little flat and legs a little weary as the Mustangs jumped out to a big lead of 17-3. However, the character and poise of the the Lobos cut the lead to 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lobos took the lead 24-23 going into halftime. From there on out the Lobos and Mustangs went back and forth in what was not a pretty game to watch. However, the Lobos turnovers down the stretch proved to be too much to overcome as Westfield hit a freethrow with .5 seconds left. The loss moved the Lobos to 5-3 on the season, in what has to be one of the toughest schedules in the state of Texas.

The Thanksgiving break came at a good time and has allowed everyone in the program to exhale and relax. The start of the season has been hectic to say the least. The preseason is about checking to see what we must improve, use as barometer of where we are, and allow us to gain experience headed into district play. The process to get better everyday is what we are striving to achieve one play at a time. The stretch we just faced will be invaluable in our process of our journey.

Lobo BBall Family,

The official start of the season begins tomorrow at College Park High School in Conroe. Although the journey for this season started at the end of last season's loss in the first round of the playoffs, the official start of the season kicks off tomorrow and I think everyone is ready it to start. When practices started Oct 26, 2011, the message that I gave the team was to focus on the process and the path that is taken to get to the destination one play at a time, one practice at a time, one day at a time, one week at a time. Focus on the process was the message. As we get deeper into the season, the path will be filled with outside influences of expectations, balance in our lives, and the heightened expectations of the next challenge in front of us. The deeper into the season we go of non-district games, tournaments, and the district campaign more will be on the line. The challenge I have asked them to do it simply focus on the task at hand. As easy as that sounds, I think it might be the hardest thing I have ever challenged our staff and players to do since I have been coaching. I also think that this is the hardest schedule we have ever put in front of the team since our staff has been at Langham Creek. The season motto for the season is Work Hard, Be Humble, and Enjoy the Journey. If we can do those things, I am sure that the path will lead us to success. I think the group of young men we have chosen to represent Langham Creek High School Basketball are up for the challenge.

This week another challenge presents itself. We will now add all of the football players into the the mix of all of the teams. We were not sure when the voyage for them would end, but it ended Saturday night at the hands of Alief Taylor 48-47. The guys that are coming over from football have gained valuable experience of how fine the line is to win in our district and in the city of Houston. As a coach, I loved the way they handled every adversity that was thrown their way. Many of the experiences in their season, will only further add to the experience of competing at a high level of competition. The dynamics of the teams will change a little and some teams may have to go backward a little at the beginning to help the journey for the long run. We will now have full rosters on each team and competition within those teams, we are hoping allows us to compete at a high level for each of the five teams.

Thank you for all that showed up at the parent meeting on Thursday night. We hope you enjoyed the open glimpse of what takes place on a daily basis in the basketball practices. Thank you for all of the people that showed up and signed up for their shift at the concession stand. It will be something that everyone will need to do in order to have everything taken care of in the season. We have been talking to the teams about servant leadership and we hope that you as parents can model that for your children in the regard of time. We are thankful and understand that it is tough sometimes to juggle the seemingly hectic schedule of your life. I am of the firm belief that if everyone does their part, then the burden will be very light instead of a heavy burden carry by a few.

This week the schedule will be a little different, because the varsity is involved in a tournament. Anytime a team is involved in a tournament, much of the routine is determined by results of the previous day of games. The Varsity is going to compete in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the southwest region of the United States. We are looking forward to going against some of the best teams from throughout the state of Texas. We will be taking on Elsik and Duncanville who are both among the best teams in the state and in the nation year in and year out. We are looking forward to the early challenges of the season.

Lobo BBall Family,

The basketball season gets under way tomorrow with after school practice and starts the official season under the regulation of UIL. This year the Motto for the team is to Work Hard, Be Humble, and Enjoy the Journey. The expectations are high for the season as many of the guys from last year are returning and the success of all teams in the program has created a high level of competition within the program. We are looking forward to the journey that this season's path will take us.

Although the full compliment of players are not done with their fall sports the basketball season does not wait for the other sports to finish in order to start the season. The guys that have been in the basketball athletic period from the beginning of school will start practice after school. The athletes that are involved in other sports such as football or cross country will try out once their respective seasons are over. There will be a full open tryout for the guys not in the program and those coming from other sports November 4 and 5. Announcements will be made during the school day and a meeting will take place for those that are not in the athletic period. November 4 right after school 3:00-5:00 and November 5 6:00-8:00 the tryouts will take place.

Lobo BBall Family,

This week the Boys Basketball Teams were faced with new challenges as the season draws to a close.  After the Varsity secured a playoff spot last week with a thrilling win over Cy-Falls, the sub-varsity teams were able to resume their schedule at Cy-Fair on Tuesday.  The cancellation of the subvarsity games by the district athletic administration due to weather, saw the Lobos jump right back into things as the Bobcats provided stiff challenges.  The Freshmen A team was trying to seek a little revenge from the CFISD Tournament where the Lobos fell in the Championship Game earlier in the season.  The game did not disappoint.  The Freshmen A Lobos and the Bobcats battled back and forth with the Lobos falling at the very end.  The Lobos were very close to handing the Bobcats their first loss in the district campaign.  The Freshmen B team was not able to escape with a victory in Bobcat gym in another good game.  The Sophomore team kept rolling with another victory defeating the Bobcats.  The JV game was a thrilling game as the Lobos needed overtime to put away the Bobcats after coming back from a 10 margin in the 4th quarter.

The Varsity Lobos were able to win on the road and secure a perfect record against the other zone in district play.  It was one of the goals the team set at the beginning of the season in order to make the playoffs and sure enough the Lobos did enough to close out the out of zone play Tuesday night.  Going into the last three games of the season, it seems as if the final three teams have everything riding on the game against Langham going into the contest.  The Bobcats were no different.  In order for the Bobcats to stay in playoff contention they had to beat the Lobos and the teams after in order to make the playoffs.  We took their best shot.  It was not the prettiest of wins but the game was one that simulated a playoff game, because the Bobcats were laying everything on the line in order to not face elimination from the playoff race.  Once again the Lobos were able to do enough to find a way to win 39-33.  The game exemplified the standard of working hard when you don't feel your best or when everything is not going perfectly.  In order to persevere, sometimes you must simply trust your teammates and find a way to win together.  They did just that to move to 10-1 on the season.

Friday night the Spartans of Cy-Lakes showed up fresh off of sweeping the Lobos in all five games the last time the two teams squared off at Cy-Lakes.  The night did not get off to a great start when no officials showed up for the first two games.  Believe it or not it happens more often in the city of Houston than you might expect.  However, we have been fortunate to have officials show up to get games started.  However, upon learning no officials were in the building at 3:45 pm.  I called the scheduler of subvarsity officials in the Houston area and he said that he had simply not scheduled officials for the game.  As a result, Coach Denson and Coach Moore were called into duty to officiate the Freshmen A and Sophomore games while officials were contacted to show up for the later games.  The Freshmen A were able to exact revenge upon the Spartans winning in a solid performance by the entire team.  The win was a nice bounce back from the close loss on Tuesday to Cy-Fair.  The Sophomore game did not go so well.  The Cy-Lakes sophomore coach called his team off the court and did not agree with the decision to play the game without officials.  Therefore, he was told at the time this was the only option.  He refused to continue play and the game was halted.  The JV and Freshmen B games would have officials and both games were very close.  The Freshmen B were able to also bounce back from a loss Tuesday and pull out a victory against Cy-Lakes.  The JV was able to bounce back from the first loss to Cy-Lakes in which it may have been their worst loss of the season.  However, the adjustments made from the first meeting put the Lobos in a chance to win the game.  However, a late bucket by Cy-Lakes with just under three seconds was enough to see the Spartans escape.

The Varsity team was once again in a position to take the best shot against an opponent that had to win to secure a playoff spot.  The way the scenario worked out for the Spartans is that they had to win their final two games to avoid a possible position to end the season in a situation where they might have faced a play in game after the district schedule was over.  The Lobos came into the game trying to stay in the hunt for a share of the district title.  The crowd in the building was absolutely amazing!!! The atmosphere was exactly what we will want in the playoffs.  As I talked to the team before the game, I told them the way the final games of the season are lining up against the final two opponents in district they are going to simulate the teams we are scheduled to play in the first round of the playoffs.  The Spartans of Cy-Lakes seemed to make everything they shot and we could not seem to make the shots that we normally make.  As much time and effort we put into film and preparation, sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. Cy-Lakes once again proved to be a tough match up for the Lobos.  The loss puts the Lobos at 10-2 in district and 20-10 for the season.  Thanks to all of the people who came out on Senior night.  The seniors are a special group of young men and so are their parents and families.  There is still a chance we can share the district title, but we will have to beat Cy-Springs on Tuesday and hope that Cy-Fair beats Cy-Falls.  If Falls wins we will go into the playoffs as the 2nd seed.  We will be no lower than the second seed.

Many are beginning to ask when the playoff game will be, the final decisions will be made at a meeting on Wednesday at 9:00am.  The date will either be Monday 2/21 or Tuesday 2/22.  Time, team, and place will be decided in that meeting.  As soon as we know, we will pass the information to you so that you can spread the information to the community to have another great following in the playoffs

Lobo BBall Family,

As I sit in front of the computer trying to put into words what happen today against Cy-Falls, it is hard to truly find the words that adequately express what a game it was.  I have now been the Head Coach at Langham Creek about to finish my fourth year.  I have been lucky enough to work with Coach Denson and Coach Garney on the staff during that time as well.  We have now played Cy-Falls nine times.  Of those nine games, only two have been determined by more than 10 points and three of the last six games have gone into overtime or double overtime.  One of those last six decided who would advance to the state playoffs.  In that game, the lead was never more than four points by either team.  To say that the game between Langham Creek and Cy-Falls is going to be a good game is a colossal understatement.  Today was no different and lived up to the rivalry game that led to all of the build up.  I was worried about the number of people that would turn out for the game, because of the delay.  I wasn't sure how many would be able to get to the game in the cold weather on a Saturday when it might have been easier to stay in bed and stay warm.  However, the Lobo Nation was out in full force.  Thank you!!  Our support for home games has been terrific this year.  When I say that it will take a team to do it TOGETHER, I mean the community as well.  Our team has fed off of the great crowds and today was definitely no different.  Today's win now puts us tied with Cy-Falls at 9-1.  Our final games will be against teams in the playoff hunt.

One of the things that win did do was advance the Lobos to their 4th consecutive playoff berth in four years.  Seeding is still up for grabs, but one thing that is for sure, the Lobos will be dancing in the post season!!!!  What a great accomplishment for the guys!!!

This is a link that was sent to me by a fan that caught the final shot to secure the win and send the Lobos into the post season.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFhCPTKlJqk

This week started out at Cy-Creek as the Cougars hosted the Lobos at Cy-Creek High School.  With every game meaning something to seemingly every team, the Lobos were able to win 4 of the 5 games played.   The Sophomore, Freshmen A, and Freshmen B were able to win in convincing fashion.  The JV got behind big and were down by as much as 32 points.  However, the Lobos came roaring back to take the lead, but a late shot for the Cougars was too much as time expired on the remarkable comeback.  The Varsity Lobos were able to secure a victory against the Cougars and cruise to victory 58-41.  In another team effort, all of the Lobos scored in the win. The wins moved the Varsity, Sophomore, Freshmen A, Freshmen B to 8-1 in district, while the JV moved to 7-2.

The date with Cy-Falls is always circled on the calendar when the district schedule comes out.  But as the date got closer many knew that the date might have huge implications in the district race.  With Cy-Woods and Cy-Creek games between Cy-Lakes and Cy-Falls, it was hard to keep the guys focused on not thinking too far ahead to Cy-Falls.  Then mother nature came calling and what many thought would see Houston covered in snow, nothing happened but a postponement of the Varsity game and the canceling of the subvarsity games.  Nothing like building up for the big moment then be told you have to wait.  Or in the case of the subvarsity teams, oh nevermind.  When I told the JV players they would not be playing one of the district rivals, they were visibly upset and disappointed.  Having to tell the Varsity they had to wait was tough as well, especially since it did not drop on flake of snow in the area.  However, true to form and what I have been saying about this year's team, they have a great deal of character, work ethic, and team chemistry.  Any obstacle put before them, they will try to conquer together.  Anyone that has been following Langham Creek Basketball in the past four years has surely seen some great games.  But I believe that it was the first that I have been a part of to have a player hit a shot as time expired to win the game.  What a terrific feeling to see the ball go through the rim and touch nothing but the bottom of the net.  Prior to the game, we talked to the team about working hard in the offseason, sacrificing time to get better, and putting in the time and effort just to have a chance at success.  Today, the Lobos seized an opportunity 57-55 to clinch a playoff berth and to pull into a tie for 1st place in district.

Due to the inclement weather over the next day or so, the Superintendent and the Athletic Department have made a decision on the games that were to be played Friday Feb. 4.  All of the subvarsity games have been canceled and only the Varsity game will be played on Saturday Feb. 5 at 1 pm.  The location is still the same at Langham Creek High School.  Should there be a change in plans, I will use this forum to communicate to the community.  Please help spread the word of the changes.

The current standings are Cy-Falls 9-0 leading the district and we are now at 8-1 in currently in second place all alone.

We hope to see everyone in the stands Saturday and you stay warm and safe between now and then.

Lobo BBall Family,

The journey is long and sometimes there are a few pot holes and obstacles that are unavoidable along the way.  This week the Lobos took it on the chin at Cy-Lakes.  To this point, the entire program was 30-0, however, the streak came to screeching halt at the hands of the Spartans.  The Freshmen A, Sophomore, and Freshmen B teams went into overtime, while the JV and Varsity did not play their best against very talented teams.  The streak of winning 30 games in row is simply amazing in a district as competitive as ours.  The close proximity of the schools in the district always provided teams with a familiarity with each other that is not as common as other districts.  The familiarity of each other often creates upsets and many close games that can go either way on a common night of five games.  Therefore, to have a streak of 30 wins was no small feat.  I knew the streak could not last forever, however, I did not imagine a night where all five teams would lose.  That is the way the ball bounces sometimes.

As I have written in many of the emails that have been sent to the Lobo Family and Lobo Nation, there is no way to be able to do what we have done to this point in the season without an incredible amount of character, work ethic, and help from everyone.  Our character was revealed on Friday night when Cy-Woods came to Langham Creek gym.  It was hard on our guys losing to Cy-Lakes, but the one thing that could not happen was to feel sorry for ourselves.  The district race does not stop and being a team at the top of the district just means that everyone is going to give you their best shot.  Cy-Woods did just that Friday night.  Although their record does not show it, they have played some incredibly close games coming into our meeting.  They are a group at the Varsity that is young and has steadily improved since our first meeting.  They gave us everything we could handle and then some.  Every year, there are a couple of games that as a coach defines the character of the team.  I was extremely proud of our team Friday night, because the loss Tuesday to Cy-Lakes can create a hangover effect for the next game.  In the preseason, the guys wrote and defined 16 standards that they would hold themselves accountable every day.  One of those standards is to do your best even when you don't feel your best.  The energy in practice had not been the same after the loss to Cy-Lakes.  However, as the game against Cy-Woods wore on, the guys knew they were in for a fight.  I loved the way they competed and executed down the stretch to find a way to win.  Sometimes it is what you do on the days you don't feel your best that defines you.  I tell the guys in the program, everyone can be great on the days you feel good.  That is easy.  Doing it on the days you have muster that little extra reveals the true character of a person, and in this case a team.  All of the teams were able to bounce back against Cy-Woods to win all five games Friday to move all of the teams to 7-1 through eight games in the district season.  There are now five games left and there are still plenty of challenges that lay ahead.  Nothing is secured and the mission has not been completed.  I am not sure what is ahead in the final five games, but I know we will have an opportunity because of the character of our guys and we will do it TOGETHER!!

Look forward to seeing everyone in the stands Tuesday at Cy-Creek and Friday at Langham Creek against Cy-Falls!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Current standings for the Varsity District race:

Cy-Falls 8-0
Langham Creek 7-1
Cy-Lakes 6-2
Cy-Springs 5-3
Cy-Fair 5-3
Cy-Ranch 3-5
Cy-Ridge 3-5

Lobo BBall Family,

There are certain things that happen within a season that begins a crest of movement towards something special.  This week was one of those that had that special feeling something special is brewing in the community.  There are plenty of challenges that remain on a difficult path to reach the post-season.  However, the culmination of events that led to Friday night's attendance was a very special thing to our team.  I'm not sure that I can truly put into words what the turnout meant to our players, but I hope that it is only the beginning in support that will be needed to give us an opportunity to reach the post-season again.  For all that showed up, THANK YOU!!!  For those that showed up and know a couple of people that could not be there, bring them to the rest of the games.  It will take the Lobo Nation for us to have a chance to continue the path of something special.  This year's motto of TOGETHER is simplistic in it's word, but truly what must be done in order to be the best that we can be.  My speech to this year's teams as well as the last couple of Varsity teams prior to most games is there will be an opportunity.  I cannot guarantee that we will will every game, but we will be prepared, work hard and when the opportunity presents itself, we will have a chance if we do it TOGETHER!!!

Tuesday night, the Lobos traveled to Jersey Village to take on the Falcons who have seemingly played everyone close in the district.  For some reason it is never easy to win at Jersey Village.  Although their record might not appear that way, going on the road to beat the Falcons is always a chore to say the least.  The visit Tuesday night was no different, the Lobos jumped out to an early lead that was lead by another terrific defensive showing in the first half hold the Falcons to 12 points.  The 3rd quarter proved to be a little more challenging as the Falcons made a run cutting the deficit to 3, but he 4th quarter saw the Lobos pull away for 58-49 win.  The Falcons also went down to the Lobos to all of the other teams as well. The Junior Varsity team used a steady diet of different defenses to pull away in the second half.  The Sophomores were able to find a way to win in solid fashion.  The Freshmen A were up early in the game and held off a late charge for another win.  The Freshmen B was probably the game of the night as the Lobos were down as much as 20 points, but came roaring back to win in the final stages of the 4th quarter.  In all, another terrific night for the Lobos to see all teams win again.  All teams moved to 5-0 in district.

The wins Tuesday set up a hugely important game against rival Cy-Springs.  Once again, it was a terrific night to be a Lobo!  The night started out with all subvarsity teams finding a way to win.  The JV, Sophomore, Freshmen A, and Freshmen B were able to put away the Panthers.  The wins continued the streak of teams being undefeated in district play.  The wins moved all subvarsity teams to 6-0 in district play.  The night was capped off by a terrific team performance by the Varsity in front of a packed house.  The Lobos fans were out in full force.  The energy from the crowd saw the Lobos jump out to an early lead against the Panthers.  The halftime margin of 11 points soon was whittled away by the Panthers who cut the lead all the way down to t 3 points late in the 4th quarter.  However, timely freethrows and defensive stops helped secure another victory for the Lobos.  The win moved the Varsity to 6-0 to join the rest of the teams in the program.  The program record in district keeps the streak going at 30-0!!!!!

As our motto goes for this year, there is no way to be great on your own.  The only way to be great is to do it together!!!  The voyage is almost half way done, but there are plenty more challenges that await in the district race.  Nothing is finalized and plenty of games are going to be close and hard fought.  One thing is for sure the obstacles that stand in the way will not be easily obtained.

Tuesday's game against Cy-Lakes at Cy-Lakes will have huge implications in the district playoff race.  We hope to see everyone in the stands!!!!!!!!!!!

The current Varsity District standings are as follows:

Cy-Falls 6-0
Langham Creek 6-0
Cy-Fair 4-2
Cy-Lakes 4-2
Cy-Springs 3-3
Cy-Ranch 2-4
Cy-Ridge 2-4
Jersey Village 2-4
Cy-Creek 1-5
Cy-Woods 0-6

Lobo BBall Family,

Once again the Lobo Basketball Program had another spectacular week on the hardwood.  Once again the all five teams remain undefeated in district play moving the teams to 20-0 on the district campaign.  We when started out the season the motto for this year's team was to be great, we had to do it TOGETHER!  I have stated several times to many people one can be good on his own, but he can only be great with help.  The district campaign has started off great, but it is far from over.  As a program we are headed in the right direction this season, but there many games left and the district race is far from over.  To be four games into the district race and have all teams undefeated is a great accomplishment to this point.  However, the race must go on.

This week the Lobos were able to host a home game in what seemed to be forever.  The Cougars of Cy Creek came in as a team that could contend for a playoff spot in the coaches poll based on preseason voting.  The Lobos were able to shoot an incredible 50% from the field and play stellar defense as the guys executed the game plan to near perfection.  The first quarter score of 23-12 proved to be too much for the Cougars to overcome on the night and that lead that was increased to 52-26 in the 3rd quarter.  The game was once again a great showing for the Lobos as a terrific team showing by everyone on the team.  The lead moved the Lobos to 3-0 at the Varsity level.  The JV game was close throughout but eventually pulled away at the end.  The Freshmen A jumped out to an early lead and cruised to victory.  The Sophomore game was close throughout, but they managed to pull away late to secure a win, and the B team used their pesky defense and hustle to find another victory.

Friday night saw the subvarsity Lobos host another home game, while the Varsity was in action at the Berry Center against Cy-Ridge.  The JV jumped out early and cruised to an impressive victory.  The A team jumped out to an early lead, but had to hold on to secure a win holding off a Ram team that cut the lead to one point late.  The B team was able to soundly defeated Cy-Ridge and the Sophomore team was able to build an early lead on the Rams.  However, a late charge saw the lead cut to four and the Lobos pulled away.  The Varsity team was the second game of a double header playing after the Girls Varsity.  The Lobos saw the Rams stay close in the first half with a zone defense that forced the Lobos to make outside shots.  Great shot selection and solid defense saw the Lobos build a lead at halftime.  The lead increased to 10 points late in the 4th, but turnovers and poor execution down the stretch saw the Lobo lead cut to 3 points.  However, the Lobos were able to find a way to win 49-44 to cap off a great week for all Lobo Basketball Teams.  The game was one that showed that every team on every night will continue to fight.  There will be nothing easy in our district and the balance of the district is sure to create a close race as the rest of the games are played out the remaining nine games.  As stated earlier, the start is great but there is still plenty to accomplish.

The current standings of the Varsity District Race are as follows:

Cy-Falls 4-0
Langham Creek 4-0
Cy-Springs 3-1
Cy-Lakes 3-1
Cy-Fair 3-1
Cy-Creek 1-3
Jersey Village 1-3
Cy-Ridge 1-3
Cy-Ranch 0-4
Cy-Woods 0-4

Next week the Lobos will be on the road to play Jersey Village on Tuesday and Cy-Springs will be at Lobo Gym Friday night.  Each game and week is bigger than the week before as the final games determine playoff spots.  There are sure to be great games and we hope to see everyone in the stands.

See you in stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

I hope this newsletter finds you doing well.  It has been some time since the last installment of the comings and goings of the Basketball Program.  It seems as if many things have taken place since the 12/13/2010 newsletter and the current status of the program finds us in the most important part of the season, 2011 District Schedule.  Before we delve into the district race let's back up a little to catch everyone up on the "break" after finals were completed.

On Dec. 20, the Varsity, JV, and Freshmen A Teams travelled to Fort Bend to take on Willowridge High School.  The Freshmen A excuted down the stretch to find a way to win on the road.  The JV battled in a very close game to only fall in the final seconds not connecting on freethrows which were the final deficit.  The Varsity lost 75-55 after battling closely throughout most of the game.  The Varsity record moved to 8-6 on the season with the loss.

After taking six days off for the Holidays, the Varsity traveled to King to partcipate in the Kingwood Classic.  The field was one of the most balanced tournaments and the format saw the Lobos playing four games in two days.  The first game back from the break saw the Lobos find a way to win over Kingwood Park 56-50 in the morning game.  The second game saw the Lobos slip to Del Valle out of the Austin area on a last second play 49-48.  Later that night Kingwood Park defeated DelValle in overtime, so the Lobos advance to the Gold Bracket of the Tournament to face Arlington Seguin.  The Seguin Cougars proved to be a good test for the Lobos as their size and guard play was very good.  However, the Lobos were able to execute and make freethrows down the stretch to pull out a win against the Dallas area team that would not go away.  The final saw the Lobos on the good side of the 71-63 score.  The win put the Lobos in the championship final facing a very talented Houston Madison team.  The Marlins came out scorching the nets for 9 threes in the first half.  The halftime deficit of 13 points was a little too much for the Lobos to overcome as the lead was cut to 6 but never got any closer.  The Lobos finished as the Runner-Up and also saw two Lobos collect All-Tournament Selections.  Reggie Simmons and Gilbert Carter were selected by opposing coaches we played in the tournament as well as a selection committee.  The tournament proved to be a good tournament to put the final touches on a very challenging preseason schedule which will prepare the Lobos for the 13 district games that were in their future.

The same days out of the break saw the Sophomore Team travel to Kingwood Park to play a round robin classic in which they played four games in two days.  The Lobos played well and find a way to win all four games defeating Kingwood and Conroe on the first day.  The second day saw the Lobos travel back to Kingwood to pick up wins over host Kingwood Park and Humble.  The tournament was another great showing by a Lobo team that proved to be a great tune up for the district campaign.

As all of the non-district and tournament play were completed, the district race started Jan. 4.  This year going into the district campaign, I see another incredibly balanced race.  Last year the district champion was crowned at 10-3, four teams tied at
9-4, and a team that was 8-5 finish 6th.   Two games separated the champion and sixth place.  To say every game means something in our district might be an understatement.  The penthouse and the outhouse are not very far apart.  As was the case last year our district coaches decided to play zone play instead of playing 18 district games and start district play at the end of November or beginning of December.  To allow district to play start near the beginning of the second school semester numbers were drawn by head basketball coaches.  Odd numbers were placed in one zone, while even numbers were placed in the other.  The format is to play everyone in your own zone twice and play the other zone once.  The top records overall will advance regardless of the zone.  The zones this season are as follows:

Our Zone
Langham Creek
Cy-Springs
Cy-Lakes
Cy-Creek
Cy-Woods

Their Zone
Cy-Falls
Cy-Ridge
Cy-Fair
Cy-Ranch
Jersey Village

The opening date of district saw the Lobos travel to Cy-Woods.  It was a great night as all five teams came home to 529 and Barker Cypress with wins.  The night started off with the Freshmen A and Sophomore teams collecting wins.  The JV and Sophomore teams followed up the wins with two more and the Varsity capped off the night with at convincing win 61-44 win that saw a total team effort.  The wins moved all teams move to 1-0 in district play.

The second district game saw the Lobos travel to Cy-Ranch.  The Mustangs were coming off a loss to Cy-Fair at the Varsity level and would be looking to avoid a 0-2 start in district.  Once again the it was a banner night for the Lobos as the Freshmen A and Sophomore teams started off the night in the right way winning the first games of the night.  The JV and Freshmen B teams followed up with two more wins in thrilling fashion.  The night was once again capped off by a convincing victory seeing the Varsity win 55-35 in what I can only describe as a great defensive effort.  All teams advanced to 2-0 in the first week of district.

There are not many weeks where all games go one programs way, but this week was one of those rare instances when all teams went 10-0 collectively.  In order for things like this to happen, it cannot be done alone.  One can be good on their own, but to be great it takes many!!!

This week the Lobos will face two more tough teams that will be hotly contested in Cy-Creek and Cy-Ridge.  The game against Cy-Creek will be at Langham Creek Tuesday and Friday subvarsity games will take place at Langham Creek (this is a change from the schedule that was sent out) while the Varsity will play at the Berry Center.  Friday night, if you pay for a ticket at Langham Creek for the Sub-Varsity games and keep your stub you will be admitted to the game at Berry.  Please keep your ticket, so you will not have to pay at both sites.

The district standings are as follows right now for the Varsity:

Cy-Lakes 2-0
Cy-Falls 2-0
Langham Creek 2-0
Cy-Fair 2-0
Cy-Springs 1-1
Cy-Creek 1-1
Cy-Woods 0-2
Cy-Ranch 0-2
Jersey Village 0-2
Cy-Ridge 0-2

This week the practice schedule starts to become more of a routine with games taking place on Tuesday and Friday the rest of the way.

Lobo BBall Family,

It has been two weeks since I last sent out the newsletter.  It seems as if the past two weeks have been a whirlwind as every level of basketball has seemingly travelled all over the city to compete in tournaments and non-district games.  Teams have been in the middle of what seems like the most hectic time of the season.  During this time, players are trying to find a balance of playing games and still getting work done in the classroom as the end of the season nears and final exam are quickly upon them.  In the past week the Freshmen B Team travelled to the Pasadena Tournament.  The JV travelled to the Katy ISD Tournament, while the Freshmen A competed in the CFISD Tournament.  The Varsity competed in the Katy ISD Tournament as well as the Cypress Hoops Tournament, and all teams took on Dobie Longhorns 11/30 and Mayde Creek Rams 12/7.

The JV picked up non-district wins over Dobie and Mayde Creek then they finished 2nd in the Katy Tournament over the weekend.  Big wins against Mayde Creek HS, Kempner HS, and Cinco Ranch HS put the Lobos in the finals against a very talented Seven Lakes school.  Up-tempo and pressure defense fueled the Lobos all weekend.  Swarming all over the floor, changing defenses at a rapid pace, and finishing on the other end of the floor allowed the Lobos to be in that championship spot.  The same team went into the championship with the same mind set, but fell short to the Spartans. It was an overall team effort and the guys are anxious to get into the district race.

Sophomore boys basketball dropped a close game to Dobie and then traveled to Mayde Creek on Tuesday and took a BIG win with a final score of 61 to 47. The hard work paid off late in the game as the boys were only ahead by four points with two minutes remaining and was able to hold off Mayde Creek and secure a victory.  It was exceptional team work on everyone's part.

The Freshmen A also picked up non-district wins against Dobie and Mayde Creek and this past weekend saw them compete in the Cy-Fair tournament.  In their first match up Friday the Lobos went up against district opponent Cy-Ridge.  The Lobos came out strong from the tip being very active on defense and smothering the Rams on defense.  They eventually finished off the game with a 53-40 victory to advance to the next round.

Their next match up was against district rivals Cy-Falls at 9 am on Saturday.  The Lobos came out focused and played their most solid and complete game of the season.  The switched defenses, executed their offense, got on the floor for loose balls and did everything it takes to win a game against a good team.  They took a one point lead into half, but came out in the second half shooting red hot from the field and secured a victory 52-46 to move on to the championship game.

In the Championship the Lobos took on a very strong Cy-Fair team.  The Bobcats came out strong and jumped to an early lead. Early in the 2nd quarter saw the Lobos face a 15 point deficit.  However, in the closing minutes of the quarter the Lobos stormed back to cut it to 3 at the half.  Both teams traded punches in the 2nd half.  The Bobcats continued to shoot the ball extremely well from the outside and show a very strong game inside.  Out of pure hustle the Lobos were able to stay in the game.  In the final minutes the Lobos were able to crawl to within 2.  However, being forced to foul, the Bobcats repeatedly hit their free throws and secured the win 61-54.

The Lobos showed a lot of character this past weekend dealing with injuries and sickness to finish 2nd in the Cy-Fair tournament.  The second place finish in the tourney is the best showing the Lobos have had in several years and will look to build on it.  They will use the next few weeks to improve and get ready for the district season.

Last week the Freshmen B picked up wins against Dobie then traveled to the Pasadena Tournament where they went 1-2 picking up a first round game then losing two close contests.  Tuesday evening the lobos traveled to Mayde Creek and defeated the Rams 55-43. The Lobos trailed in the 1st half 24-16 but after some half time adjustments the Pack swarmed the Rams by pressing and scored 39 second half points.

The Varsity team has had a truly hectic two weeks.  Last week the Lobos played six games in five days.  The week opened with at solid win over Dobie High School who came into the game 5-2.  The Lobos were able to handle the 1-3-1 trapping defense.  The game saw the Longhorns move to a 1 point deficit before the Lobos opened up the game and pulled away to a 10 point victory.

Last weekend, the Varsity traveled to the Katy ISD Tournament and went 3-2 on the weekend with an opening round win against Klein Oak, then lost in overtime to Mayde Creek.  The long day on Thursday may have seen the Lobos carry over the next day as the Lobos came out flat and found themselves in a battle against Waltrip in which saw the Rams escape in overtime after a controversial call at the end of regulation.  However, the Lobos rebounded to win two impressive wins over CE King and Angleton to claim the Silver Consolation Championship.

This past week saw the Varsity looking for a little redemption against the Mayde Creek Rams after a close overtime loss in the Katy Tournament.  The Lobos were able to contain the outside shooting and pulled out an impressive 69-53 victory.  The victory moved the Lobos to 8-3 on the season going into the Cypress Hoops Invitational.

The Cypress Hoops Invitational saw the Lobos lose a couple of close games decided by less than 5 points in both contests.  The Lobos fell to Brazosport 65-61 after being down 20 points in the third quarter, but came roaring back to cut the lead to 62-61.  The Lobos then faced a very talented Spring Lions in another tough game.  In a game that neither team led by more than 6 points the whole game, the Lobos fell 54-51 to fall to 8-5 on the season.  The tournament season has not been too kind to the Lobos as the record is 3-4.  The regular scheduled games the Lobos have moved to 5-1 on the season.

The losses have been by the smallest of margins and the wins have not been by large margins.  At this time of the season, the Lobos are gaining valuable experience for what is sure to be another tight district race.

This week the students find themselves in a schedule that is a little different as they are taking semester exams.  As parents, it is important to know for eligibility purposes is to look at the six weeks grades.  Many teachers are looking at semester grades which are important for grade point average (gpa).  However, six weeks grades determine whether the players can continue to play in district games.  Please keep an eye out for the six weeks grades.  Here is the semester final exam schedule.

Lobo BBall Family,

This week was one that saw the Varsity in action twice, while the subvarsity was only in action once.  The Lobos took it on the chin against the Mustangs who came into the contest #12 in the state.  In many of the games, the Lobos did enough to stick around and against most teams would have come away with a win at several levels.  Playing Kingwood is always a good barometer of how long a team can do right, because Kingwood will execute for 32 minutes.  Traveling on the road is an important factor for teams come district play, because in order to advance out of district teams will have to win on the road in tough environments.  Kingwood simulates those tough road games come district when your teams have been scouted and many times the victor is the one who does the most things right at the end of games.  The Lobos dropped all five games, but the maturation process makes the path a little more road ready for the future.

While the subvarsity teams started their break after Kingwood, the Varsity took on Westfield Wednesday afternoon as part of eight games that took place between teams teams from 13-5A and 17-5A at Spring High School.  The Lobos were out of the gate slow falling behind 15-4 in the opening quarter.  However, the Lobos answered back with a 20-4 quarter that saw the Lobos take the lead for good for the rest of the game.  The final was 44-38 as the Lobos marched to 3-1 on the season.

I wanted to make sure there was a reminder to all of the parents about taking cameras to the games.  Last season, we started the annual memory book that captured many action shots of all of the teams.  We want to remind all of the parents to take a camera to the games, so that we can have an even better memory book than last year.

Also, this year the CFISD Varsity Tournament is taking a huge leap forward in trying to be one of the best tournaments in the area and hopefully the state.  This year the tournament formed a committee to try to make the tournament more prestigous by finding corporate sponsors.  The field has been expanded to 24 teams and the hope is in the future to continue to add teams as the tournament becomes more successful.  This year there is going to be a pass for the day and a tournament pass.  The day pass is $10 and will get you into the games for the day at all locations.  The tournament pass will get you in the doors to all of the games for the entire weekend of Dec. 9-11.  Passes will be on sale at the door Tuesday night when the Lobos take on the Longhorns of Dobie High School.

Lobo BBall Family,

This past week, the basketball season tipped off and saw all of the Lobos in action on the court.  Tuesday, the Lobos were in action against the Spartans of Seven Lakes.  The Sub-Varsity teams were closely contested, but saw the Lobos come out on the wrong end.  The Varsity was able to pull away late and secure a victory in a team effort that saw the Lobos play inspired defense and valued the ball on offense.  The 59-47 victory was the first in school history over a new Seven Lakes team that has been very successful since the doors opened in Katy.  The win marked a huge statement for one of the standards that the team set in the first days of school, "We are this LC team".  Although, the traditions and recent history of the program have seen the Lobos win in several different ways.  This victory over a highly area and state ranked team put a stamp on the opening of the season that this team is still Holding the Rope for the previous teams, but they are forging a path their own way.

The JV and Freshmen teams were in action in tournaments this weekend in CFISD JV Tournament and Alief A Tournament.  Both teams were not able to secure victories in the opening round, however, they seemed to right the ship Friday and Saturday.  The Freshmen defeated Kempner and Tomball to secure the Consolation Championship.  The JV Lobos beat Cy-Fair Friday and picked up another win Saturday morning against Cy-Ranch , while falling a short in the Consolation Championship to Alief Elsik by 3.

The Varsity was in action against Klein Forest Friday night.  The Golden Eagles of Klein Forest were coming off of a victory against Bryan on Monday and visited Langham Creek also highly ranked in the area and state.  The Lobos once again were able to play terrific defense and value the possession of the ball on offense to seal a 57-45 victory to move the Lobos to 2-0 on the young season.  The victory over Klein Forest marked the first time Langham Creek had beaten the Eagles in four years that I have been the head coach and at least nine years previous while I was an assistant.  I know for sure that it has been over 13 years since the Lobos found a way to win.  Once again, the victory put a stamp on the standard of "We are this LC team".  I believe this is the first time in the school's history that the Lobos have beaten state ranked teams in back to back games.

This week does not see the challenges getting any easier.  The Lobos will travel to Kingwood on Tuesday who have been challenged by many of Houston's top teams in the area and state.  The Mustangs are also state ranked.  The challenge of going on the road to win is an important component of successful teams.  Kingwood will be another great test for the Lobos.  Wednesday will see only the Varsity in action against Westfield High School.  It will be another great challenge to play in back to back days to prepare for the tournament season.  Going to Kingwood on the road Tuesday night then turning around to play the next day against Westfield at 3pm will not be easy because of the short turn around.  Throw in the fact that Tuesday starts a short break from school, the guys will have to handle the a change in routine, but will also prepare them for three tournaments they will play in during the month of December.  All of the challenges are things that every team faces, but those who handle them the best are most likely to take advantage of opportunities.

The game Wednesday is one of eight games taking place at Spring High School.  The schedule is located on the Paperwork page

Also for those that were added after the season, the Holiday Schedule is also located on the Paperwork page.

Lobo BBall Family,

This week opens the official start of games for the boy's basketball season around the state of Texas.  We are excited to open the season against the best from around the area.  Here is a link to the top 25 teams in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches http://tabchoops.org/preseason10.pdf . Our opening game is Tuesday against Seven Lakes, ranked #13, at Langham Creek.  The Freshmen will travel to Alief for a tournament, while the JV will host part of the CFISD JV Tournament Thursday and Friday.  The final day will take place at Cy-Woods High School on Saturday.  Remember that all of the tournaments we have gotten brackets for at located on the Paperwork page and the directions to all of the schools can be found on the Directions page. The Varsity will take on preseason #20 in the state Klein Forest on Friday at Langham Creek.

We are excited about the beginning of the season and understand to simulate the District schedule in the non-district and tournament season, we must play the best talent in the city to prepare us.  We believe that the district race will be as close as last year where we saw six teams finish within 2 games of each other.  First place was 10-3 and sixth place was 8-5 with four teams tieing for spots 2-4.  The margin is slim and each battle will be intense.  As many of you saw at the open practice Monday 11/8, practice is intense and very demanding.  However, we are excited about how hard all of our teams are working and the attitude they have been displaying everyday.  I think the best part of the season for the guys is they get to play someone else other than themselves.

Thank you to all of the freshmen parents that have gotten their children to practice at 6:00 am.  We are greatly appreciative!!!

Lobo BBall Family,

This week saw all of the teams go to The Woodlands to scrimmage Saturday morning.  The scrimmages serve as a glorified practice against another teams.  After each scrimmage there are some things are done well and some things that come to light as to what needs to be improved.  This week the teams will be rounded out and completed.  We will place players on teams to begin the preparations for the season which kicks off November 16, 2010 at Langham Creek High School against preseason state ranked Seven Lakes High School.

Those players coming from football will attend their football class during the day to turn in all of their football equipment.  They will then attend practice before school or after school.  This week will see us get into a routine of practice times as the freshmen will begin most of their practices prior to school and finish during 7th period 1:39-2:30.  The sophomores will routinely practice 1:39-3:30.  The varsity and jv will practice most dates from 3:30-3:45 until 5:30-5:45 on most days.  When scheduling the doctors, dentist, and orthodontist appointments please do your best to schedule around these times.  We do understand that many times we are at the mercy of the offices and their availability of times.  It doesn't always work out, but we know that it is not because of lack of trying.

Lobo Basketball Family,

This week opened the official start of practices after school.  The guys are off to a great start to the beginning of the season.  Most of the emphasis has been place on defense in the first three practices for the Varsity and JV, while the Soph. and Freshmen have been working on a combination of all facets of the game.  This week will see most of our teams travelling to The Woodlands High School on Saturday for our first scrimmage.

This week also saw another one of our players be infected with Staph Infection.  All administration was notified as well as our athletic trainers and janitorial staff.  Friday after practice, all basketball players were asked to clean everything out of their lockers.  The janitoral staff disinfected all of the lockers as well as the locker room floors, bath room, and weight room.  The weightroom and locker room are usually disinfected periodically throughout the month.  However, the janitorial staff has been informed and will be disinfecting the locker room and weightroom more often.  We also addressed the players the importance of taking a shower after workouts, washing hands after using the restroom, and wahing practice clothes after each practice.  One of the biggest problems we saw in the lockers were players were not taking home shorts and shirts to wash.  This year, we will make it mandatory for all players to clean out their lockers at the end of the week.  The janitors will then disinfect the locker room and bathroom weekly.  The only thing the players should have in their lockers are their practice gear and shoes.  Game stuff should be taken home to clean after games and should be kept at home until needed for games and travel.

This past week, there were open tryouts for students not participating in Football or Cross Country.  The final part of the tryout process will conclude this week on Friday at 3:30 for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.  Varsity Football players will come see me the following Monday after they are cleared by the Football coaches.  Tryouts for the sub-varsity football teams and all of the Cross-Country teams will tryout 3:30-5:00 pm.  Those making the team will be contacted over the weekend as to when they are to report to practice.  Once we have all participants who have tried out, we will begin placing players on the appropriate teams for the first game of the season Nov. 16 vs Seven Lakes at Langham Creek.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2010 6:00-8:00 PM.  THERE WILL BE AN OPEN PRACTICE WITH THE JUNIOR VARSITY AND VARSITY TEAMS TO SHOW ALL PARENTS WHAT A PRACTICE IS LIKE.  WE WILL ALSO HAVE SIGN UP FOR WORKERS IN THE CONCESSION STAND, BOOSTER CLUB SOUNVIENORS, AND BASKETBALL T-SHIRT ORDERS.  WE WANT A REPRESENTATIVE FOR EACH PLAYER IN ATTENDANCE.  AFTER THE PRACTICE, WE WILL HAVE A SHORT MEETING TO DISCUSS THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE PLAYERS AND THE PARENTS FOR THE 2010-2011 SEASON.  WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER EXCITING SEASON.  WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT TREMENDOUS SUPPORT OF THE PARENTS AND COMMUNITY. CHECK www.langhamcreekbasektball.com for parent signature page to be filled and returned by 11/9/10. SEE YOU THERE!!!!!

See you in the stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

The start of the season is upon us.  After school and before school practices will begin Wednesday 10/27 for all levels.

The official start of the Basketball Season does not mean teams are complete, nor that the student-athletes have the team they are going to compete finalized.  The football season is not over yet and open tryouts for the school have not been completed.  Teams will not be finalized for the opening of the season until football and cross country seasons are complete. The sub-varsity season for the cross-country team is over Friday 10/29.  The sub-varsity football season will be over Thursday 11/4.  Sub-varsity tryouts for those sports will take place Friday 11/5 after school from 2:45-4:30.  Open tryouts for the school (those not participating in football or cross country) will take place Thursday 10/28 at 6:00 am and Friday 10/29 6:00 am.

Most of the time, teams will be finalized for the start of the season the week before the opening game of the season which is Tuesday 11/16 vs Seven Lakes HS, who is ranked in the top 10 in several preseason rankings.

If there are any people that you know in the community that have been asking about any of this information, please pass the information along.

See you in the stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

I am sorry for the tardiness of this final newsletter. However, to be brutally honest, I have taken time to sit down several times to write the final newsletter of the 09-10 season and simply could not. It was too hard to muster the words that would try to do justice to the end of the season. The way the season ended was bittersweet. On one hand, seeing the team play at the end of the season was something that I will always remember. We played our best at the end of the season. That is always one of the biggest goals going into any season. We simply found a way to win close games and found a way to do it together. However, what could have been ate at me and the coaching staff as Lakeview Centennial advanced to the State Championship Game. I simply could not bring myself to write the final installment because I did not want it to end and when it did it was a hard pill to swallow!!!

I can say with all my conviction that this season was unlike any other that I have experienced. Before I took time to write the final installment of the 09-10 season, I went back to watch all of the playoff wins and read the previous newsletters. Human nature is to always want a little more instead of realizing what you have is truly great. There are many things to be proud of in this season, but I think the thing I will remember the most about this team is that when it got hardest, we were at our best!!

Going into the Regional Semi-Final game against Lakeview Centennial, we were able to gather all of their playoff game films. We saw a team that pressed and could really shoot the ball well off of turnovers out of their press. We knew that we had to control the tempo of the game offensively and defensively. In their regional quarterfinal game, they were 9-14 from behind the 3point line. We felt like we could not just stand in a zone and let them be comfortable. We changed defenses and really tried to control the tempo on offense by taking great shots instead of good shots. The confidence that our team had going into the game, I knew we would have a legitimate chance to take down the #3 ranked team in the state.

It seemed as if every playoff game was better than the previous one. The game against Lakeview was no different. The guys went out and executed the game plan to give us a chance to win and advance. However, the one thing that is always important is officiating. I will take the high road and simply say that it hurt to have four guys from our team foul out. After looking back at the film, I will always remember the final sequences of regulation that will epitomize this years team.

With about 1:00 to go in the game, we came up with a stop down 4 points with momentum clearly on their side. We looked like we were dead in the water. However, we converted on offense to cut the deficit to 2 points. We call a timeout and tell them we are going to get a five second call. One of the guys on the court said he could not foul or he would foul out. I said, "don't worry about it we are going to get a five second call." that is exactly what happened. We then convert on the baseline out of bounds for a score and tied the game. They came down to try to take the last shot of the game. However, when they penetrated we were in position to take a charge. Lobo ball with about 9 seconds left. Timeout was called and we draw up an out of bounds play to give us a chance to score deep. It works to perfection, but we don't convert the transition basket. But we still have a chance after they travelled on the rebound. We get another shot that did not fall. Overtime!! We go in overtime for the fourth consecutive time in the playoffs. I wish that I could report that the transition basket was converted, or the final shot in regulation went in, or that we won in overtime. However, our season came to an end. It is that final minute of regulation that I will always remember that embodied this team. I never stand in front of the team and guarantee a win. I always tell them that if you do everything that is asked, you will be prepared. If you are prepared, you will have an opportunity to win. There is nothing guaranteed in basketball or in life except for an opportunity. We had an opportunity to win we simply came up a little short. However, we were prepared for everything and no matter what stood in the way we never believed that we wouldn't win or find a way! Those things will always give u a chance in basketball and in life.

I look forward to the new challenges of the 2010-11 season. However, the 09-10 season will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for all of the people that I saw in the stands! We could not have done it without u and everything the community has done make Langham Creek great!

I look forward to seeing u in the stands in the spring league, summer league, and the 2010-11 season.

Lobo BBall Family and Lobo Nation,

16 left standing...

It is hard to believe what has taken place in the past two weeks.  So much has happened and some of the things are now running together.  The play-in game at Cy-Falls, the delayed Bi-District game against Cedar Park 2OT, the last second shot against College Park that led to overtime and now Monday against The Woodlands leading to OT again.  Those games alone and separated over the course of an entire season would be enough to fill a highlight film.  However, that has been the life of Lobo in a small span of games.  It seems as if each game tops the next somehow!!

What an unbelievable ride it has been!!!  Last night is hard to describe if you were not in attendance.  The Berry Center was absolutely electric.  The weather forced all of the outside sports indoors and as a result created one of the best environments I have ever been a part of Langham Creek.  Thanks to all of the sport by all of the other sports at Langham Creek!!  It seems as if all of the sports were represented in coming out to support the Boys Basketball Program.  The rain on Monday will always be remembered by myself as the perfect storm, because all of the outside sports and the entire Langham Creek community could be found indoors supporting the Lobos continue to make history.

As we prepare for the next step in the playoffs, Monday night against The Woodlands will always be a night I remember.  There was some confusion as to what time the game was to be played.  Part of the problem stemmed from the original site for the game to be held at Cy-Falls High School at 7pm.  The Adminstration of CFISD found a way to have the Berry Center ready to accommodate the Regional Quaterfinal Game after holding an event in the arena over the weekend.  They did a terrific job of getting it ready, but the game had to be pushed back 30 minutes.  I am glad that they found a way to get it done, because it was great to see the entire community of Cy-Fair show their support for the Lobos.  I would have hated to have a game as good as that not be seen because people could not get in.  Thanks to the administration for finding a way to make it special for the entire community.

Overall, the Lobos move to 24-11 on the season and have once again advanced farther than any other team in the history of Langham Creek Basketball.  We will take on Garland Lakeview Centennial (30-3) Friday night at 6 pm on the campus of Baylor University.  The game will be at the Farrell Center which is the site of the home games for the Baylor Bears Basketball Teams.  Tickets will be $10 for each person attending the game.  I know the haul could be long and the ticket prices a little steep, but we hope that it does not keep you from being in the stands!!

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

240 Schools had a dream of making it to the post-season...

128 were dancing in the first round...

64 were still playing in the second round...

32 are still standing...

I'm not sure I am smart enough to scribe what last week was like.  However, I will do my best, but what will be written is no where close to how exciting the past week was.  After surviving a thrilling game against Cy-Falls just to get into the playoffs, the games against Cedar Park and College Park just kept getting better.  I have honestly known the entire season that the biggest challenge for our team would be to make it out of the district.  If we could make it out, we would be battle tested and would have a chance to advance in the playoffs.  As I have told the team numerous times, all you truly want in life is a chance.  When the chance presents itself, our lives are often defined by being ready for the opportunity.

The first opportunity came when the Lobos drew the district champion of 16-5A Cedar Park.  Going into the game, I knew that it had the opportunity to be an outstanding game!  We were seeded 4th in our district, but I do not feel we were a common 4th place team.  After studying the film on Cedar Park, I knew they would be alot like Kingwood, Cy-Falls, and Seven Lakes.  They played solid man to man defense, would take very few gambles, value the possession on offense, and when we walked away from the game we knew we would have to win it.  It would not be given to us!!  We were prepared by our preseason and district schedule for the opportunity on Tuesday night.  However, mother nature decided that the game should be played on Wednesday because of all of the snow delivered to the Central Texas Area.  The Administrations of both school districts made the right decision to move the games to Wednesday, but it was difficult to put off the game one more day.  The guys were hugely disappointed, however, it did not stop the Lobos from being ready on Wednesday.  Cedar Park proved to be a very difficult opponent.  There were several times in the game when it looked like the Timberwolves would escape with a win.  However, the Lobos simply found a way to win with terrific defense that led to baskets.  We had the final shot in regulation that did not find the basket, then Cedar Park hit a wild contested 3 went in at the end of the 1st overtime to extend the game.  But in the end, the Lobos defense and freethrows in the 2nd overtime allowed for victory in the Bi-District Game over Cedar Park.

The second opportunity in the Area round of the playoffs saw the Lobos taking on a tough College Park team that in their short history of the school seems to always be in the postseason.  The game was a game of runs.  The Lobos did not play near their best in the first half of the game trailing 28-21 going into halftime.  However, the Lobos came out with a full head of steam and fire in their breath.  The Lobos came out and took the lead 34-32 then took the lead by as much as 7 at 41-34.  That is when the Cavaliers came roaring back to answer the run and take the lead.  The final minutes of regulation, the Lobos were able to simply find a way to once again extend the game just a litte more.  A terrific three pointer with :13 left in the game tied it at 51 all.  The final :13 seconds of regulation saw the Lobos dodge several bullets that could have ended the season.  They missed a mid-range shot, but got two offensive rebounds and put backs right at the rim.  However, neither went in.  Sometimes to advance, you simply have to be lucky!!!  In overtime, the Lobos dominated on defense and converted on the offensive side outscoring College Park 11-0 in overtime for a final of 62-51.  Area Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week marked history for the Langham Creek Basketball Program...

Reaching the Regional Quarter-finals for the first time in school's history

Most wins in the post-season by any Langham Creek Basketball Team

Advancing farther than any other basketball team in the history of Langham Creek

Although these things have been accomplished, we have another opportunity against The Woodlands High School on Monday night at 7:30pm at The Berry Center.  As mentioned earlier, all we can ask for is an opportunity in life.  Monday night represents the next opportunity.  We will be ready for another tough opponent.

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

The Lobo Basketball Team lives to play another day!  We have arrived at one of the destinations we set to achieve at the beginning of the year.  As I have stood in front of the team on many occasions, I have talked about reaching the destination is not what we will remember, it will be all of the journeys we have taken that will make us appreciate the destination.  I can honestly say, this has been on of the most difficult destinations to reach in my 13 years of coaching.  However, it my be the most gratifying because I know that we have overcome many obstacles to still be standing and the group of young men that were chosen to represent Langham Creek High School and the community have always risen to the challenges, because of their character and work ethic.  Has the journey been perfect?  No, not by any stretch has it been perfect, however, what I am most impressed with the young men in the program is they have always bounced back to do the best that they can when it counted the most!

During the season, one of the mentors to one of our players sent me a quote that exemplified our season:

"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail"
R.W. Emerson

This week the spirit of who we are rose to the challenge!!  On Tuesday night, we faced a very hungry Cy-Falls team that came into the contest having won 9 or the last 10 games.  Their backs were up against the wall and had to win to get in and we were playing for a piece of the district title.  Those who have seen us play several times in the season, know that we simply did not play our best.  It was that belief that we knew we did not play our best that hurt the most!  As we went back to revisit film, it was hard to watch because it was not our best.

However, Tuesday night marked a special night on many fronts, because we recognized the seniors that have played a significant role in the continued development of our program.  Chris Aaron, Jerome Harrell, Duke Reed, Mackey McKnight, John Macalla, Devon Rhodes, Anthony Powell, and Alex Doolittle have made huge contributions to help us reach the destination.  Tuesday night, two of the sub-varsity teams claimed district titles.  The Freshmen B and Sophomore Teams put a cap on terrific seasons defeating Cy-Falls claim championships.  The Freshmen A team finished of another terrific season, and the JV once again went into overtime just falling short.

Tuesday night's victory would have put a perfect cap on an already terrific season.  However, it was not be that night on the Varsity level.  One of the great things about the night, however, was that the Lobos did enough over the course of the season to fight another night.  That is exactly what we did on Friday night!  In what will always go down as one of the most memorable games of my coaching career, the Lobos found a way to win a terrifically played high school basketball game.  At no point in the game was the lead bigger than 4 points by either team.  It was simply two teams battling it out to see who could make create another journey.  I would like to thank everyone that came out to the game to support the Lobos find a way to reach the State Playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year with a thrilling 53-49 win over Cy-Falls at Cy-Falls High School.

As good as that game was, the next challenge for our team will be to not allow a let down because we have reached one of our destinations.  There are new journeys and destinations still to be forged in this season.  We hope to see everyone in the stands on Tuesday night to see the Lobos take on Cedar Park at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station.  Tip off will be at 6:30pm.

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

2/15/2010

Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Program for another outstanding week on all levels.  The Lobos were 9-1 on the week and have moved to 19-1 overall in the past two weeks.

The Lobos will play Tueday night at Langham Creek High School at 7pm against Cy-Falls High School.  There is plenty at stake after a thrilling win over Cy-Woods High School Friday night to pull into a tie for the district lead.  A win Tuesday night will mean that Langham Creek will share a district title with the winner of Cy-Creek vs. Cy-Woods, which will take place Tuesday as well.  The Lobos are in search of the first district title since the 1986-87 season.  The craziest thing about winning the Cy-Woods game is that we still have not secured a playoff spot.  Tuesday's game is one in which the senior players will be honored prior to the game and a special night for the families of the senior players.  We need all of the Lobo Nation in the gym Tuesday to support the chase for a playoff spot for the third consecutive year and a share of the district title.

The Houston Chronicle has named Mackey McKnight the high school player of the week, Congratulations Mackey!!!:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/hso/6867652.html

District Standings are as follows:

Cy-Woods 9-3
Cy-Creek 9-3
Langham Creek 9-3
Cy-Fair 8-4
Cy-Falls 8-4
Cy-Lakes 7-5
Cy-Ridge 5-7
Jersey Village 3-9
Cy-Springs 2-10
Cy-Ranch 0-10

The games Tuesday will determine several things. We win, we will share
the district title with the winner of CyCreek-CyWoods. CyCreek
would advance as the top seed in the UIL Bracket and we would get the
second seed. If Woods wins, we would flip a coin to determine seeding.
Each coach would look at the "road" that is best for their team and
pick the best seed for their team in order advance. Basically, winner
of the flip would be able to pick first or second seed. All ties of LC
and Creek or LC and Woods, both teams would be designated as co-
district champions.

If we lose and CyFair loses to CyRidge, then we would still advance.
If we lose and CyFair wins, we would play a play-in game Thursday,
Friday, or Saturday against Cy-Falls to determine who would advance as
the fourth seed. Any three way tie with Falls, LC, and CyFair or Creek
would still be determined as a play in game with LC and Falls because
Fair and Creek are undefeated against LC and Falls.

Clear as mud I know!

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

The Boys Basketball Teams had another successful week.  The Varsity found a way to win two games over Cy-Ranch and Cy-Ridge.  The Lobos were simply too much for the Mustangs on Tuesday night.  All five teams won against Cy-Ranch.  Friday night the Lobos had their hands full at ever level.  All teams were once again victorious making the overall win total on the week 10-0.  I cannot remember the last time that happened while I have been at Langham Creek.  It seems as if all teams always have a chance to win and each game is really close, however, there may be a game that may slip away from time to time.  To go 10-0 on the week is a great accomplishment for the program.

This week, the road to the playoffs does not get easier.  With an overall record of 18-10 and 7-3 in district, the playoff spots are far from being secured.  There are three games left in the district race.  We will finish with Cy-Springs on Tuesday, Cy-Woods on Friday, and end the season against Cy-Falls.  It looks as if there are six teams fighting for the final 4 spots. The district standing and the schedules left for those in contention is as follows:

Cy-Woods 9-1 (cy-falls, langham creek, cy-creek)
Cy-Creek 8-2 (cy-lakes, cy-fair, cy-woods)
Cy-Fair 7-3 (cy-ranch, cy-creek, cy-ridge)
Langham Creek 7-3 (cy-springs, cy-woods, cy-falls)
Cy-Falls 6-4 (cy-woods, cy-ranch, langham creek)
Cy-Lakes 5-5 (cy-creek, cy-ridge, jersey village)
Cy-Ridge 4-6
Cy-Springs 2-8
Jersey Village 2-8
Cy-Ranch 0-10

There is still a great deal to be determined in the district race.  Each of the teams we have left on the schedule were terrific games in the first round of the playoffs.  We need as much support as possible to find a way to get in for the third consecutive year.  There have been many games where we have been down by double digits during the game, but they always find a way to come back.  The guys fight to the very end and give everything they have for the community of Langham Creek.  With three games left please take time to come see the Boys build on school history of reaching the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

It is hard to believe that there are only five games left in the district race. When the season started, I knew that the district race would be really interesting and had not idea how it would all play out. It seems as if this is the most balanced district race that I can remember in several years. This week was an interesting week to say the least. On the road for both games against tough teams hungry to validate their seasons against the Lobos. As I take a step back to think of what happened this week, it is a complement to all of the parents, players, and community over the past three years and before to see where the program has gone. I have been at Langham Creek for 8 years now and 5 more in the district at another high school. This week Cy-Fair High School and Cy-Creek had some of their largest crowds of the year to see their schools take on the Lobos. After Cy-Fair won their student section even stormed the court. Langham Creek is in the position of taking everyone's best shot because of the environment the players, parents, and community have created in the basketball community and what has been accomplished this year and in the past two years. This year the Lobos are in a position to advance to the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

However, nothing has been accompished yet. The final 5 games will not be easy. This week as I faced my team prior to the Cy-Fair game, I talked to them about getting to the destination is not what you always remember in life. What you remember is the journey on the way to the destination. When we look back on the journey after we have arrived at the destination, it is many times the things that were difficult that we appreciate more. We look back and realize what we have done to get to the destination that makes us appreciate the destination even more. This week is one that was not easy. Both games could have gone either way. A few freethrows here and a couple of rebounds there, we are 2-0 this week. However, that is not the case. With 5 games to go, we will move forward in our journey one step at a time together. For I am sure that the journey ahead will not be easy, however, I know we are on the right path. I know that there are many in the community that have been meaning to come see a game. If you know those people, tell them there are only five games left in district and we need everyone to come out and support the Langham Creek Basketball team. It seems as if every game we have played this year has been close and entertaining. Every team in our program is fun to watch. The Sophomore and Freshmen B teams are undefeated in district. The JV and Freshmen A teams are always involved in close games that seemingly all go down to the wire. There is still plenty to be determined in the district race.

Cy-Woods 7-1
Cy-Creek 6-2
Cy-Fair 5-3
Langham Creek 5-3
Cy-Lakes 5-3
Cy-Falls 4-4
Cy-Ridge 4-4
Cy-Springs 2-6
Jersey Village 2-6
Cy-Ranch 0-8

This week both games will be at home. Tuesday vs Cy-Ranch 7:00pm with a special performance by the JROTC at Halftime. If you missed the performance at the halftime of the Cy-Woods Game, you missed a treat and will be able to catch them perform before their competition on Friday. Friday 's game will be against Cy-Ridge at 7:00pm.

See you in the stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

The Lobo Basketball Teams had another exciting week. Tuesday, the Lobos took on the Cy-Woods Wildcats at all five levels. In the subvarsity teams, the Lobos were able to have another successful week going 5-3 against Cy-Woods and Cy-Lakes. It seems as if every game is coming down the final minutes and a few are being decided in overtime. The Sophomore and B Teams had big comebacks to find a way to win against Cy-Lakes. If you are able to get to the games a little early the subvarsity games are always a treat to watch. What is very impressive as the Head Coach of the program is to see the guys compete to the very last minute and find ways to win in a mulitude of ways. Many of the contributions come from an assortment of players and true team work is on display.

In Varsity action, the Lobos lost their first district game to Cy-Woods who also came into the game undefeated. In a game of runs, the Wildcats opened up a 21-4 lead only to see the Lobos answer with a 17-2 run of their own to cut the lead to 19-23. The Wildcats took a lead of 10 points going into halftime. However, the Lobos answered right back to take a lead in the 3rd quarter. In a game that went back and forth the Wildcats were able to pull ahead in the final minutes of the game for a 64-54 win. Friday night, the Lobos were in action against the Cy-Lakes Spartans who came into the game with a 3-2 district record after going through a brutal stretch of non-district games. The Spartans were battled tested by many of the top programs in the Houston Area. The Lobos had their hands full with the 3 point attack of the Spartans. On the night, the Lobos were able to withstand the 10 three pointers of the Spartans with transition baskets and a steady rebounding. The Lobos moved to 16-8 overall and 5-1 in district play tied with Cy-Woods who lost to Cy-Fair on Friday night. Cy-Ridge was also 4-1 going into Friday night's game, but fell to Cy-Springs moving them to 4-2 in district. This year, every game on every night at every gym could have an unexpected outcome. The balance of the district is proving that every game will come down to the wire.

The current district standings are as follows:

Cy-Woods 5-1
Langham Creek 5-1
Cy-Ridge 4-2
Cy-Creek 4-2
Cy-Fair 3-3
Cy-Lakes 3-3
Cy-Falls 2-4
Cy-Springs 2-4
Jersey Village 2-4
Cy-Ranch 0-6

See you in the Stands,

Thanks
Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

The Lobos had another productive week on the hardcourt. Cy-Ranch and Jersey Village were the opponents this week as the second week of games took place. The Lobos were once again on the road in both contests. Tuesday night, the Mustangs came out fighting showing a great will to fight and battle the Lobos for every loose ball and rebound. A small run at the end of the half would be a glimpse of what was to come in the 3rd and 4th quarter as the press turned the pace of the game into the favor of the Lobos. Mustangs trailed 25-22 at the end of the half. In the 3rd and 4th quarter the Lobos took control of the game forcing turnovers and converted them into points. The lead grew to 26 points as the Lobos forced a pace that the Mustangs were uncomfortable playing. The final score saw Langham Creek on top 66-50. All subvarsity teams were also successful winning on the road. The Varsity Team moved to 14-7 overall and 3-0 in district.

Friday night Langham Creek traveled to the Berry Center to take on the Jersey Village Falcons. The subvarsity teams went to Jersey Village taking 3 of the 4 contests. In the past three contests in district, the subvarsity teams are a combined 11-1. The Varsity once again faced another team trying to knock of the Lobos with scrappy play. The Falcons were ready to take the best shot at the Lobos. Early on Jersey Village seemingly found every loose ball. However, once again the defense proved to be too much for the Falcons to deal with forcing turnovers and rushed shots. The shots led to transition points as the Lobos started to control the boards in the 2nd quarter moving out to a 10 point lead. The Lobos were able to stretch the lead to to as much as 20 and held on for another solid district victory moving the Lobos to 15-7 overall and 4-0 in the district race. The win sets up a game Tuesday night 1/19 against Cy-Woods who will come into the contest 15-4 overall and 4-0 in district. The game will be at Langham Creek hope to see everyone in the stands. The Lobos will also be at home Friday 1/22 against a team that is showing a great deal of improvement in the district standings Cy-Lakes. Every game is a big game during district we hope that you will tell as many people as possible to come and support the Lobos in the drive for a playoff berth.

The Varsity District Standings going into the round of games on Tuesday 1/19/2010 are as follows:

Cy-Woods 4-0
Langham Creek 4-0
Cy-Ridge 3-1
Cy-Creek 2-2
Cy-Fair 2-2
Cy-Lakes 2-2
Jersey Village 1-3
Cy-Falls 1-3
Cy-Springs 1-3
Cy-Ranch 0-4

See you in the Stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

The Boys Basketball Program was in action again Friday night against the Cy-Springs Panthers.  Every team in the program won in a thrilling night of basketball.  All games were closely contested, but the Lobos proved to be too much for the Panthers at every level for one night.  In the opening week of district, the schedule asked for the Lobos to play games against rival teams that will be sure to have a say in the outcome of the district playoff race.  After the thrilling night Tuesday against Cy-Falls, the Lobos were ready for the next step in the district race to try to move to 2-0 in the district race.

The Varsity game saw the Lobos jump out to a controlling lead.  However, the tide changed as the Panthers came roaring back and under circumstances in which I don't think anyone in the building was happy with officiating.  Whether you were cheering for Langham Creek or Cy-Springs, I don't think anyone was happy with the guys wearing the stripes.  However, at halftime I told the guys that there are some things in life you cannot control.  It seems as if sometimes it is not fair, but you cannot stop competing or staying focused on the challenge at hand.  The guys did a terrific job of keeping their composure and working together to find a way to overcome the next challenge in their way.  This week was a terrific week in beating two schools that we share student-athletes from two of our middle schools.  We split Aragon with Cy-Falls and Kahla with Cy-Springs.  Many times in both of these games the guys on each team want to win so bad for bragging rights since they have grown up together since elementary, you can often throw out the records and the games will always be exciting.  This week proved to be no different.

We used this week as life sessions as well.  Both varsity games were hotly contested and shared its own challenges.  The Cy-Falls game saw the Lobos down 21 and against the Lobos one of our captains found himself with four fouls in the second quarter.  I told the guys after the Cy-Falls win overtime that at sometimes in their life they are going to be in charge of people.  When they are charge, they must remember to surround themselves with people of high character and work ethic.  Also, you cannot not do anything  worth having without help from people that care.  This week alot of what I stand for was on the line.  Down 21 at Falls, it took young men with great character and belief in one another to comeback.  In the Cy-Springs game, we could have made excuses about the officiating.  However, they showed an incredible amount of integrity and belief in one another to have a chance at the end.  Thank you to all of the people that help mold the young men in the program.  The foundation of integrity and work ethic was established well before they stepped onto campus at Langham Creek.  Thanks to all of community that help to make Langham Creek a great place to be!!  Our work is far from done this season, but this week was a big one.  Help spread the work about the teams, how exciting the games are, and that there are plenty of games left.  The crowds have been great let's keep building on them!

See you in the Stands,

Thanks

Lobo Nation,

The Boys Basketball team was in action over the Holidays.  The Boys participated in the Kingwood Classic Dec. 28th and 29th.  The Lobos advanced to the Gold Division of the Tournament with convincing wins over Klein Collins 71-51 and Austin area Del Valle 71-59.  In the opening round of the Gold Division Bracket, the Lobos faced the host school Kingwood.  The game was very close the entire 1st half,  however, the Mustangs built a 19 point lead in the 3rd quarter.  The Lobos came roaring back late in the 4th quarter.  However, the come back fell a little short 71-65.  The loss to Kingwood meant that the Langham Creek would face Houston Madison in the final game of the tournament.  The Lobos were able to find a way to win a grueling game that saw both teams fighting through the fatigue of their fourth game in two days.  The Lobos won defeating the Marlins in overtime 68-67.  The tournament ended with the Lobos finishing 3-1 in a very competitive tournament.

Tuesday, January 5 marked the opening date of the district campaign.  The Lobos traveled to Cy-Falls High School in a battle of rivals.  The game like many of the Cy-Falls games did not disappoint if you are a Lobo Fanatic!  The Eagles jumped out to a commanding 29-8 lead early in the 2nd quarter led by what seemed like an endless barrage of three pointers.  However, the Lobos stayed focused and went to work cutting the deficit one possession at a time.  By the end of the 2nd quarter, the lead narrowed to 9 on a great possession to end the 2nd quarter.  By the end of the 3rd quarter, the Lobos were tied with the Eagles at 41.  The fourth quarter of the game was not enough to decide the game.  Overtime once again was needed to decide the outcome.  In overtime, the Lobos were able to jump out to a 4 point lead early.  Solid defense and made freethrows sealed the comeback win 64-57.

Currently, the Lobos stand at 12-7 on the season and 1-0 in district.  We are now in a routine of games every Tuesday and Friday with 12 games remaining.  This season is one of the most balanced I have been a part of in 13 years of coaching in CFISD.  Every game will be closely contested and the old coaching cliche "any given night any team can win" holds very true in 15-5A.  Our next game is at Langham Creek Friday, Jan. 9 against Cy-Springs.  Subvarsity games will be at 4:00 and 5:30 with the Varsity tip-off at 7:00.

Lobo BBall Family,

The Basketball Program had an outstanding weekend.  The Varsity finished the week 4-1 with wins against Katy Taylor, CE King, Katy, and Klein.  The lone loss came to Cy-Fair 55-54 in the second round of tournament play who advnaced to the championship game of the CFISD Tourney falling to Spring by one point.  The week moves the Varsity to 8-5 on the season and finished 5th place in the tournament.  In the past two weeks the Varsity has won 6 of the last 8 games.

It was also a nice weekend for the JV and Freshmen A teams as they both went 3-1 on the weekend and finished 3rd in their respective tournaments.  The Freshmen B Team was also in action this weekend finishing 2-2 in their tournament finishing 4th place.  Overall on the weekend the boys finished 11-5.

This next weekend is really important for many reasons.  The final week of the semester sees the guys preparing for finals. The semester grade is the one that is vital to the determination of the students grade point average (gpa).  The final exam counts for 1/7 of the students grade or the equivalent of three weeks worth of work!!!!!!!  Many times the students overlook the semester exam final which can effect the gpa because they score poorly on the exam.  Both are important for different reasons.

Lobo BBall Family,

I am currently having problems opening this week's tournament brackets from home.  I will not be able to send out a full practice schedule in one email.  Please look for two installments in this weeks newsletter.

This past week was one that was going to see alot of action for the Varsity, Sophomore, and B Teams.  However, mother nature took care of the tournament action this weekend.  In all it was a good week.  The Varsity went 3-1  defeating Dobie, Davis, and Katy while dropping a game on Saturday to Klein Forest.  The Sophomore and B Team were well on their way to doing well in the Tournaments picking up wins in the opening rounds of their respective Tournaments.

This week will be another busy week of Tournaments with all teams except the Sophomores in a tournament.  The week will open up at Katy Taylor HS.  The Varsity, Freshmen A, and Freshmen B will all take place in the CFISD Tournaments.  While the JV will travel to Katy HS for the Katy ISD Tournament.  Brackets will be posted in the morning.

See you in the Stands,

Thanks

Lobo BBall Family,

I hope this message finds you doing well and hopefully back safely from your journeys to visit friends and family.  Balancing the busy schedule of basketball and the holiday breaks are never easy.  This week the Lobos will see another busy week and plenty of travel.  Monday, November 30, is the start of the 4th week of the final six weeks of the 1st semester.  Progress reports will be going out this week.  Make sure you keep an eye out for them if you are not monitoring them online through the PIV.

This week will see all five teams going to play Dobie High School on Tuesday.  The Varsity will be in the KATY ISD Tournament, while the B Team travels to South Houston in the Pasadena ISD Tournament and the Sophomore Team will participate in the CFISD Tournament hosted by Cy-Ranch.  The JV and Freshmen A Teams will have the weekend off from games.

Tuesday night, the Lobos will travel to my alma mater of Dobie High School.  I graduated in 1993 after playing all four years in basketball program.  During my time there, I was influenced my many teachers and coaches along the way.  However, one of the most influencial was the Head Basketball Coach Scott Talton.  Last February, Coach Talton passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack in his home while enjoying his retirement working on a "honey do list."  To say the least, he was one of the finest men I have met.  I will always remember his work ethic, integrity, and love of the Dobie Basketball Program.  During his coaching career, he won over 500 games took two teams to the regional tournament, several district titles, and numerous Coach of the Year awards.  He did it all at one High School, Dobie.  However, more than anything he wanted us to be great men and do things the tright way on the court, in school, and in the community.  Coach Talton's death took place while we were in the playoffs last year.  As we were preparing for the Area Round game against Klein Collins, I was asked to speak at his funeral.  It was one of the biggest honors of my young life to speak about the man that influenced me so much in my life.  As the season ended and several things were set into motion to remember the legacy of Coach Talton.  This fall the court at Dobie High School was named "Scott Talton Court".  The court will officially be dedicated in his name when Langham Creek travels to take on the Dobie Longhorns.  Many of the former players and coaches will be on hand to remember his legacy.  It will truly be a special night to be a part of game that will remember a man who influenced my life.  I am sure it will be one of those special nights that I will always remember.  I hope that you are able to make to the game and will see you in the stands for a night that promises to be much more than a night about basketball.

See you in the Stands,

Coach Ament

Lobo BBall Family,

The first week of games proved to be exciting and full of learning experiences that will hopefully make us better down the road.  The opening night of the season saw the Lobos travel to Katy to take on Seven Lakes High School.  The Spartans welcomed the Lobos with a give away of over 500 Spartan Crazy T-Shirts.  The stands were packed and ready to rock.  However, the Lobos had a different game plan.  We jumped out to an early lead of 18-9 in the first quarter and the crowd was not much of a factor most of the game.  The Spartans made a run and most of the game remained close.  Everytime the Spartans made a run the Lobos answered.  The tide turned late in the 4th quarter when two starters got into foul trouble and the Spartan crowd came alive.  In what was a frantic finish, the Lobos saw the lead evaporate late in the 4th quarter, yet battles tough to the end.  The final tally saw the Lobos come out on the short end 61-54.

Friday night, the Lobos travelled to Aldine to take on the Cougars of Nimitz HS.  Once again the Lobos were ready for the challenge and jumped out to an commanding early lead in the first half.  The Cougars made a run to cut the deficit, but the Lobos held strong.  Although the crowd was not as big, the fans at the Nimitz game were just as loud as the Spartan fans Tuesday.  The Lobos were able to make enough plays down he stretch and just enough freethrows down the strech to seal a good win 66-65.  The challenge of going on the road to win in a tough enviornment is always good.

The Junior Varsity boy's basketball team started out the season on the road at seven Lakes HS and gave a valiant effort, but came up short to a tough Spartan team.  Offensive execution and defensive savvy allowed the Lobos to fight to the end.  This past weekend the Lobos also competed in the Cy-Fair ISD Boy's basketball tournament were they fell short to the Cy-Fair bobcats in the Consolation final 30 to 28.  The boy's opened up against a very athletic Spring HS team, but came up short at the end.  Second chance opportunities and turn-overs hurt the Lobos at the end.  They were able to bounce back against Cy-Ridge HS the following day and pulled out a victory with clutch free throws down the stretch.  Saturday morning, they traveled to Cy-Lakes HS to compete against a scrappy Mayde Creek HS team were the Lobos showed some poise down the stretch to seal the victory.  In the Consolation final, rebounding and poor execution down the stretch hurt the Lobos against a very athletic Bobcat team.

It was a busy start to the season for the A Team this week, playing a total of 4 games.  Tuesday's opener at Seven Lakes saw the Lobos fall short to Katy Seven Lakes.  It was a tough battle that was a valuable learning experience for the Freshmen.

On Thursday the A Team began play in the Alief ISD Tournament, which is competitive, because of the athletic and talented teams.  The A Team began play against the host of the tournament, Alief Hastings.  The Lobos came out of the gate slow and trailed by as many as 15 in the second quarter.  However, they did not let up.  The Lobos played good pressure defense and smart offense giving them a chance to pull with in two with 4 seconds left.  After a time out, a 3 point buzzer beater gave the Lobos their first win of the season.  It  opponents didn't get any easier for the Friday game of the tourney where the Lobos faced one of the best basketball programs in the area, Alief Elsik.  The A Team picked their full court pressure defense apart and was able to get another victory by 3.  In the championship game of the tournament on Saturday, the Lobos got a rematch against Katy Seven Lakes.  The Lobos fought hard but could not overcome Seven Lakes' 11 3 pointers and missing 15 free throws.  The Lobos finished 2nd in the tournament.

All in all it was a very exciting and successful first week as the A team stands at 2-2 overall.  It should be a great season as the Freshman continue to learn and grow.

This week the Lobos will host another terrific program Tuesday night, Kingwood High School.  The Mustangs are consistently one of the best programs in the area and will provide a stiff challenge for the Lobos.  Wednesday afternoon, the Lobos will be one of 8 games taking place at Cy-Springs HS.  13-5A/15-5A Challenge will be teams from each district playing at one site.  The Lobos will take on the new program of DeKaney HS.  We hope to see everyone at the games before Holidays Feast is on the table.

See you in the Stands,

Lobo Ball Family,

The Basketball Season will officially start this week.  The Lobos will travel to Seven Lakes High School in Katy to start the season.  The Spartans are coming off a season that saw them win 29 games.  Although they are a relatively new high school, they have had success right out of the gate at the varsity level.  Our belief in scheduling games is to go out play the best schools to prepare us for the District Campaign starting in January.  The Varsity's first five opponents are teams that are picked to be in the playoff hunt in their respective districts.  Seven Lakes, Nimitz, Kingwood, DeKaney, and Dobie will be different types of tests to prepare us for the different things we will see in district.  All five teams will open at Seven Lakes on Tuesday.  The JV will participate in the CFISD Tournament, and the Freshmen A team will be traveling to the Alief Tournament.  This week will be a busy week to start the season.  During this busy time of season, nutrition and sleep are vital to maintaining a healthy body to perform at its peak.

All parents need to sign the last page of the Parent Packet and return it no later than Tuesday.  It can be found in the paperwork section of the website.

Lobo BBall Family,

This week is the final tune up for the beginning of the season which tips off at Seven Lakes High School Tuesday, November 17, 2009.  The week prior to the season starting will be one that is slated to be busy as the final preparations are made to start the season.  This past Friday, tryouts were held, the subvarsity football teams finished their season, and unfortunately there will be no post season for the Varsity football team.  The make up of the teams will be changed greatly over the course of the week.  We will do our best to assign teams for the beginning of the season, however, changes can still take place thoughout the season.  Just because a player starts the season on one team, it does not mean that the player will finish on the original team they are designated.  With the addition of so many players to all teams, there will be a step back to teach the new additions in order to take several steps forward in the course of a season.

This week we will have Parent night on Thursday, November 12 from 6:00-8:30pm.  The first part of the meeting will be an open practice of the Varsity and JV from 6-8.  While the practice is taking place, all of the necessary information for the season will be out in the foyer of the gym.  Information for the LCHS Booster Club, LCHS and Basketball Souvenirs, Volunteer sign up for the Concession Stand, and parent packets for expectations of players, parents, and fans during the season the season.  The Parent Information Packet is already posted on the website www.langhamcreekbasketball.com under paperwork.  Every player is to have the final page of the packet signed by parents on file before the first game of the season.  Another very important thing that needs to be embraced by every parent in the program is volunteers for the concession stand.  This season is a little unique in the fact that there are not as many home games as in the past.  However, I cannot stress the importance to have EVERYONE try to make contributions of time in the concession stand.  Last year, we had a core group of parents that went above and beyond the call of duty volunteering well over 8 or 9 times in a season.  Prior to attending the Parent night please take time to look at the schedule on the website and have a couple of dates in mind to volunteer.  The only dates that do not appear on the schedule that you may not know are parts of the CFISD JV and Varsity Tournaments that Langham Creek is helping to host.  There will be two games each day on November 19 and 20 as part of the CFISD JV Tournament.  The other dates for the CFISD Varsity Tournament are Dec. 10-11.  There will be two games on each day as well.  There are a total of 9 home dates to have covered by a total of close to 70 players.  Let's make sure that the work is shared among the Basketball Family.

Wednesday will be a special day as Mackey McKnight signs his National Letter of Intent to Lehigh University.  We will have a celebration to honor the accomplishment.  Thursday the Parent Meeting and open practice will take place, then Friday the Varsity will scrimmage at Langham Creek against Klein Forest and Humble starting at 4:00pm.

See you in the Stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

First and foremost, thanks for all of the responses in making the tribute patches for a fallen member of the Lobo Nation,Clay Davis, happen.  I am glad to report that the Basketball Program will be able to honor Clay in every game this season with patches on the jerseys of the Varsity and JV uniforms.  There is no way that we could have made that happen as quick as you did.  Thank You!!!!

As you guys know the basketball practices are well under way.  There are some things that must be addressed in order to ensure that the players take care of their bodies to be able to perform at their peak.  One of the easiest ways to help the body perform at its peak is to properly hydrate.  Since school has started, we have asked that the players take time to take three or four huge drinks of water between every class.

Now that after school practices have started, it is imperative that the players maintain proper hydration consistently throughout the week.  It is important for the players to take quick drinks several times throughout the day, instead of quickly drinking 20 oz bottle of water prior to practice.  The large amount of water at one time will not allow the body to absorb all of the water.  That which is not absorbed will be moved out of the body and wasted.  One of the best ways to monitor the hydration of the body is to have the guys monitor their urine in the morning.  If the urine is deep yellow and bubbling, then the body is not getting enough water.  Drinks that are high in caffeine and sugar are not beneficial to helping to maintain proper hydration.  Sodas, energy drinks such as Monster and Rockstar are not beneficial because of the high sugar and caffeine content.  Water consistently throughout the day with Gatorade and Powerade after practice would be the most beneficial.  Many sport drinks are offering drinks with less sugar.

Eating after practice is very important as well.  In an ideal situation, the players should eat within 45 minutes of working out if possible.  Sources of nutrients high in protein, carbohydrates (pasta, potatoes that are not fried), vegetables, and fruits (bananas, apples, oranges) are great after practice.  I understand battling the young kids with nutrition is never easy and protein drinks can be very costly, but one of the best simple drinks after practice is a glass of chocolate milk to replace the high cost of some protein drinks.  Not a whole half gallon or gallon, but a simple glass will do.  Eating is not allowed in the classrooms, however, between classes students should be getting water and some snack ideas that may be practical are peanuts, almonds, cashews, or granola bars that have high concentration of nuts.  Try to avoid the granola bars that are really high in sugar.  Some of the granola bars can be similar to eating a candy bar.

Practice is off to a good start at all levels.  The energy level has been great in the first couple of days.  However, as we move deeper into the season it is important that we be CONSISTENT in all facets of school to be great.  CONSISTENT in the classroom, nutrition, practice, and games is not easy to do.

This week as we travel to The Woodlands High School to scrimmage and we will try to evaluate what we need to improve and what we are doing consistently.  The process to be great is never easy.  Thanks for all that you do for Langham Creek Basketball.

See you in the stands,

Lobo BBall Family,

We are excited to announce that the basketball program now has its own website that is now up and running.  We will use that as another way to communicate with the community about what is going on at Langham Creek.  Please take time to look it over.  We believe that it is one of the best in the city and the state.  Coach Denson did a great job helping to put it together.  Please visit us at www.langhamcreekbasketball.com It is only in its beginning stages and we hope to continue to make it better with more information about former players and past accomplishments, as well what is going on now.  Enjoy!!!!

It is hard to believe that the 09-10 season is seemingly around the corner.  The girls teams kicked off the start of the season with practice today.  We will begin next Wednesday October 28.  I am excited about the upcoming season.  The guys have been working hard in the preseason.  This season finds new challenges facing the Lobo Basketball Program.  With the addition of two new high schools to the district at the varsity level, there are now 10 teams in the district.  The District Basketball Head Coaches voted in the spring to have two zones splitting the district, so that the district games would not start so early in the season.  With 10 teams, it would have meant playing 18 district games moving the first district game into November.  Therefore, there was a blind draw at the Head Basketball Coaches meeting.  10 numbers were put into a "hat" with each coach taking a number..  The district zones are as follows:

Zone A
Cy-Fair
Cy-Lakes
Cy-Ridge
Cy-Creek
Jersey Village

Zone B
Langham Creek
Cy-Falls
Cy-Woods
Cy-Springs
Cy-Ranch

The format for district is to play everyone in Zone B twice and Zone A once for a total of 13 games.  The teams in Zone A will play Zone A twice and Zone B once.  The top four district overall records will advance.  The road to another playoff berth will be difficult in the balanced 15-5A.

Our motto for this season, after building on the 07-08 Season of Attitude and Effort, 08-09 Season Energy, Poise, Unselfish, is "Consistent".  Although its simplicity may be underwhelming, I have been telling the guys in the program, "The true mark of excellence, is consistency."  I have told them everyone can be great for one day or one season.  But can you be great every day?  I believe that now the programs next challenge to be consistently great every day, week, month, and year.  As a teaching point outside of the game of basketball, I have tried to instill that being consistent in everything they do in life is just as important.  Will they be consistent in their relationships with their parents, faith, friendship, academics, and in the community?  As underwhelming as the motto may be, to be consistent everyday may be the biggest challenge I have ever asked of them.  I do know that the guys are ready for the challenge and we must be consistent to continue moving forward!

See you in the stands,

Coach Ament
